So I admit... they pissed me off.
« on: July 16, 2008, 10:41:20 PM »
Ordered a scope mount from taurus for my raging bull... it is obviously not straight...., doesnt mount straight... it twists a couple of degrees from the back to the front, as in the metal itself is not straight.  Thinking about sending it back.  Thinking of trading it for a super redhawk so I know for sure I don't have to deal with this problem.....

Maybe I will solve both problems and keep the RB with open sights, cause I love it... and get a Super Redhawk to scope.

It will be a miracle if they help you fast. There CS is known to suck nowadays.

I have wrenches and washers.  I'll take pictures of the end result.

OK, so here is the deal.  I took the mount, did the light test (put a small level, which I know is straight, held it up to the light againts the mount) and saw that on side on the back came down slightly.  So with a vice and a wench, fixed that problem.  Mounted the mount with the rings, and the mount was definitely off.

On to the next problem.  I noticed something I hadn't noticed before (so much for me ranting about how you should give your guns a full check over before you buy them....)  The barrel, when it was tightened, we turned about 5 degrees past straight with the frame, and since the mount mounts to the barrel, it makes it not straight with the frame.

So I got on the phone with Taurus, they said sent it in, and we will fix it.  I even asked them, when you accuracy test it, it is already accurate, will you then refuse it?  They said no, the barrel will be straightened, accuracy test comes last.  So now I am sending the gun and the mount to taurus.  Will report back in a month or so I am guessing.

FEDEX is the absolutely most horrible company to deal with.  It's like trying to squeeze orange juice from salmon roe.

UPS won't do pick ups from a person for a firearm.  Which I don't understand... because they have before from me...

In all of the problems I had with the grossly junk Taurus revolvers I've reported on FEDEX came to my house and picked up the guns and shipped them off to Taurus in FL with no hassle whatsoever. My ONLY problem with FEDEX is they just won't follow guidance to not drop off packages without a signature. They will drop off or at least claim to drop them off most anywhere and when lost wonder how it happened. I've finally got UPS trained to NEVER leave a package at my house without a signature but FEDEX still hasn't learned. Perhaps after they pay off a few more insurance claims for lost packages they too will get the message.

One of my favorites was the time a box was left leaning against my garage door during a thunderstorm. They didn't even bother to  ring the doorbell so that I could at least come looking. Yeah there was a firearm in it.

Well they are doing it, which is a good thing.

But to get to that point, I had to talk to three different people, two of which put me on hold to look up the regs, one of which hung up on me while I was getting her dimensions.  The automated service won't give you a number to talk to a person, so I had to look up a number of a different Fedex service to talk to somebody.  I was trying to get a rate quote on the website, but it won't let you get one for packages, kept sending me to the freight quote and saying I was under 150lbs so they couldn't do it.  And when I tried to do packaging labels online, it was asking for my customer number, which I don't have one of those since I'm not a business or often use the service.

I just want to send a box to somebody.

Thankfully got it all hashed out and they are coming tomorrow to pick it up.

All for the low price of $75.  That is the price of living in Alaska.   ;)

Five weeks, got the gun back.  They did about the same time as ruger.  A little slower than browning.  Not close to as fast as henry.

Barrel is nice and straight, everything locks up good, as it did before.

They mounted the scope mount on there, looks straight.  Put the rings and ring straightness gauge on there, everything is straight.

Can't complain anymore.

It shows poor quality control to let a defective part go out to a customer. What may have been a couple of dollars loss to bin in the first place has cost them probably hundreds to put right. Not to mention the gut churning worry to the customer. At least they made it right in the end. - Pete

Yeah, the barrel thing I still partly blame myself.  It was visibly turned, and I didn't look it over enough when purchased.  I guess I had handcanon fever when I was looking at it.
