Is a 1X Scope Just an Empty Tube?

Is a 1X scope just an empty tube?

If you are not magnifying the target at all,  you'd need a place to put the reticle,  but no lenses or anything.

Right???

I am not an optical engineer, but a 1x scope is more than a tube with a reticle.  Such a device does exist, it is called a tube sight if my memory serves me right, and is as long as the barrel and action together, plus a few inches to the back.  A 1x scope puts the reticle on the same optical plane as the target.

1x scopes have no magnification.

Guess I'll find out - just won a 1X Nikon Monarch on Ebay.

Going to try it on a Ruger .44 for deer.

As long as it sharpens the sight picture it  should work out.
