Pflueger reel ???
« on: July 19, 2008, 03:41:05 PM »
Hey guys. I'm thinking about getting a new spinning reel. I am probably gonna get a Pflueger President, but I was also considering a Pflueger Trion. I was wanting to see if anybody has one of these and what they think of them. And if you could compare the 2 that would be nice. I was leaning more torward the president, but I haven't decided yet. So if you have one of these reels, please tell me how smooth they are, how tough they are, if they're worth the money, and anything else you have to say about them. By the way, I mostly fish farm ponds for Largemouth bass, catfish, bluegill, and crappie. And sometimes I go to a lake or river for catfish or bass. Thanks everybody.

I would stay away from them. They aren't that nice and they cost a bunch. They are comparable to a $30 Abu Garcia Cardinal Reel which is a better reel IMO. You can buy a bunch of Abu Garcias for the price of one Pflueger and if you happen to drop one in the lake you aren't out of that much of an investment. I would spend more on a good rod, but today they are all made in China.

I have both the Trion and the President and IMO they are great reels. I use the smallest models of each reel on ultra-light rods. Both have smooth drags. I don't see too much difference between the two models, but I like the look of the President better. I also like their Asaro model.

I have had the Pres and loved it. Yes they look the same on the outside as the Cardinal but on the inside is where it shines. Better quality metals and alot smoother drag. Also, if something does happen, you can get the parts alot easier. My 2 cent worth.

I use a Pflueger Gold Medalist that I'm very happy with. I use it for river run steelhead and the drag has never given me a problem. I've had it for 3 years and never had any trouble. They are affordable, too.
