New Topos In My Vista
« on: July 23, 2008, 03:55:14 AM »
I have a question for you GPS guru's and would like your input.  How can I load topo maps into my Vista?  the topos that are in there now were put in by a co-worker that I  no longer work with.  When we loaded them in, we only did them for the areas I normally hunt.  This year I drew an elk tag in a completely different area and would like to get topos for that area loaded in.

Thank you in advance for your advice.

Most likely the co-worker had US TOPO (old) or Topo 2008 pre-loaded on his computer and transferred the desired maps to your unit.  There is not a MapSource lock code on either product.

The first generation Vista used a serial port connector, which may create a problem with current computers because a high percentage of them do not have serial ports because USB has a faster transfer rate.  If you fall into the category adapter can be purchased

This is assuming that you have the original cable that was shipped with your unit when new.

The only Topo Maps that can be loaded on your unit are Garmin MapSource products (there are a few exceptions).  You can find Topo 2008 at this location a below MSRP.

Another source for Colorado maps that are said to work with a Garmin unit you need to check this link:  This is a highly detailed product that slows the processor down to walking speed.
