.325 wsm winchester model 70
« on: July 23, 2008, 03:47:37 PM »
Hey guys and gals
I recently bought a winchester model 70 .325 wsm, synthetic stock with a shootersedge 6-24x50 on it. MAN MAN MAN, where has this rifle been all my life? The rifle was already sighted in by the previous owner so i went out and made sure at 25 yards. Dead center. moved out to 100 yards, i shot 1 inch low for dead centers. at 200 yards it was dead on. 300 yards it was about 3 inches low. 400 yards about 11 inches low, and last at 500 yards it was 23 inches low. after i ran a box of bullets through this gun, i was consistent shooting different ranges back to back. Now i own a lot of guns in a lot of calibres from a lot of companys. 223, 243, 270, 280, 300 win mag, 303, 308, 7.62 x 54r, 7mm mag, 8mm mag. Out of all these the 325 wsm is my new favorite. None of my other guns performas consistently round after round.  BTW i was shooting 220 grain bullets.  Anyone else out there had good luck with one of these?

I love the new short mags.  I've shot a 270wsm since they came out.  It is a great gun.  I purchased a 325 wsm browning a-bolt last year.  It was a tough decision between the 300 and the 325, but I decided on the 325 since I already had the 270.  The only range time I have had with it was to sight it in.  I shot less than a half dozen times and was grouping @ 1.5" with 200gr accubonds.  I did hunt with it all season and I am sold.  I killed two coyotes, one doe, and a 4-5 year old 10 pt that scored 142 BC.  The 10 pt was shot right behind the shoulder through both lungs and ran about 50 yds, but the blood trail was tremendous (one reason I wanted the larger caliber).  The doe was shot in the same place and ran about 25 yds.  Both coyotes were shot square in the shoulder and the results couldn't have been more instantaneous if they had been hit with Thor's hammer.  The exit woulds were about 5" in dia.  Overall, I think this is a great gun for anything you want to hunt.

Hi All,

Nope I don't but of all the WSM's the 325 is THE one I would seriously look at  ;) I would love to see photos fo your new rig. One thing does puzzle me though why such a high magnification scope on it?

I would have thought that a 2-7 or 3-9 or at a pinch 4-12 would have been a better choice.

It sounds like your scope might be starting to kick the bucket. If it is dead on at 25 yards, it shouldn't be shooting low at 100, then back up to right on at 200. Should be something like 1"-2" high at 100, I would think...maybe parallax is off at 25??
It sounds like a real shooter, in any event!!

Glad to see that the original short mag. from 64, has breed some Stepgrandchildren.

it was a missquote on the 100 yard sight in, and i choose such a high magnification scope because im into extreme long range shooting.

Good news for 325 fans. I read that before Winchester went belly up, the 325 was second only to the 300 WSM in sales.
