sabots in semis

I've got a large supply of 30cal-22cal sabots, and have used them extensively in my 30-06 and loaded several dozen for my cousins 308, We both have gotten great accuracy and great velocity (1-1.5 MOA and 3800 and 3650fps respectivly). but I'm not sure if they're safe to use in a semi-auto rifle specifically a gas operated one. My concern is that the sabot could shed a little plastic in the gas port as it passes clogging it rendering the firearm inoperable. if anyone has a thought on this drop me a line.

I remember several years ago that some of the gun scribes raised this very issue. One of them offered the sage advice to contact the firearm manufacturer and the ammunition manufacturer whose products you are using to determine if there are any safety issues involved with a particular sabot bullet or sabot cartridge in a particular firearm. Seemed like good advice.

Many have opinions on these rounds.
Bottom line, if the bullet is coming out at 4000fps it is really hot.
Too hot to be coming out of my semi auto. Plain truth is the barrell is gonna wear out sooner shooting this hot a load out of it.

You aint gonna get the accuracy and knock-down power as with the caliber your rifle was intended for, so why bother...

robert, the knock down power is not the point, i'm using the saboted rounds on coyotes and ground squirrels and as for accuracy 1-1.5 moa is well inside m.o.c. (minute of coyote)and texaseye the sabot is a polymer so there is no metal to metal contact in the barrel so wear isn't a problem.
