New 700 ADL
« on: July 26, 2008, 02:23:09 PM »
I picked up a Remington 700 ADL .30-06 in Mossy Oak Break-up (with factory mounted scope) at the Prattville, AL Walmart yesterday for $477.00. It has the new X-Mark Pro trigger (truely outstanding)and a 24" barrel. I don't remember Remington .30-06s having a 24" barrel. I'll probably upgrade the scope to a Bushnell 3200 at a later date. The factory mounted and bore sighted scope is marked Remington, but I believe it's a Simmons 3-9X40.

I love the Remington 700 & the .30-06.

I wish I'd waited until the 1st of August. Remington would be giving me $40.00 back. Oh well, I'll buy 2 boxes of Core-Lokts and get $10.00 back.

Congrats on the new rifle!  Do you have any pics?  I recently picked up a Remington 700 CDL in 270 Winchester and have been pleased with how it shoots!  Let us know how it shoots.

Well, I swapped out the Mossy Oak stock for a Remington Realtree Hardwoods stock from Cabela's.  I picked up a Nikon Prostaff 3-9X40 at BassPro Shop and used some older really low Elpaso, TX made Weaver Tip-Offs from my parts box to mount it.  I don't think it would be possible to mount the scope any lower.  I had a Outdoor Connections Super Sling in my parts box that fit perfectly.

This is gonna be a great deer rifle.

Looks Nice!  Is that an Intensity scope on it?  Do you have any range reports??  Thanks for showing it off to us.

That's a Nikon Prostaff 3-9X40.  I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet.  I have to drive an hour to a shooting range.

Sounds like the same gun as my 270.
Did it look like this new?

Mine has been under 1" with most of the ammo I have tried and under 1.5" with the worst.
I also took the Remington(simmons) scope off.

I finally made it to the range today.  I put 20 rounds of Remington 165 grain Core-Lokt hunting ammo down range.  We had some wind, because we have Tropical Storm Faye coming into town.  I'd say this rifle will probably shoot 1/2 MOA after it's had a few more rounds down the tube.  One inch groups were the norm but holes were frequently touching.  20 rounds of .30-06 is really more than I'm comfortable shooting of the bench with a light sporting rifle and I was getting tired at the end.  The gun is very light feeling.  I was waiting about 60 seconds between shots and the barrel was getting warm.  Recoil is not bad at all.  I'm very happy.

I stuck about a half pund of rubber bands in the stick of mine.
Tames recoil a little and balances more like a wood stock.
I also forgot to mention mine usually shoots it's best group first thing in  a session.

When yuo say new ADL.....I thought Remington stopped the ADL in favor of the SPS.....( Special Purpose Synthetic)     I am sure the old ADL / walnut and blued were not being made anymore.......so my question is.....is it offered in walnut stock?  Or is is really an ADL..???   I have one....in 270...walnut and blued, and love it....always wanted another one for my son...........just asking

Walmart is still selling the ADL.  They even had one with a laminated stock for a little more money.  If you want a 700ADL walnut stock, ebay has them listed all the time in like new condition.  Mine said ADL on the box, but it didn't come with sights.  That's ok with me because I don't use sights.

Mine said ADL also.
Same metal finish as the SPS but a better stock.
The new trigger too!
It has the closed bottom mag like an ADL.

When you say a closed bottom mag do you mean you have a floor plate? Dale

If it is like my ADL there is no floorplate.....much cleaner looking...IMO..........glad to know there are a few still out there..

The ADL is lighter and you don't have to worry about the floorplate opening under recoil or rough handling because there isn't one.  Simple is better.

I have never had a BDL floorplate come open while handling rigorously or from recoil, and I had some heavy hitters when I didn't mind getting pounded by a firearm  :D

It usually isn't a problem with lite calibers like the .30-06.  It happens with the .375H&H though.

The biggest thing is cheaper to make.
They do carry nice with a smooth bottom.
I have yet to have a time were I need to unload really fast hunting anyway.

I've got the bug to convet it to a CDL.  I'd like to have one of the new Boone & Crocket stocks.  I'm guessing they are hard to come by.
