Date this 700 Classic
« on: July 28, 2008, 12:50:11 PM »
New to this forum so apologies if I have missed something already posted.

I just bought a new-to-me and apparently unfired Remington 700 Classic in .223 Rem. with Leupold 1-piece base and rings.   ;D

Ser. # is E6647XXX  On right side of barrel is a triangle with J inside it.  Then an oval with REP inside it followed by an F just to the right of the oval.

The rifle has the key-lock gizmo on the left of the bolt shroud.

How can I figure the date of mfg.?  It doesn't seem to follow the pattern I have read in other posts.

Forgive my ignorance and thanks for any replies.

Oops, snooped a little further and answered my own question! :-[

Looks like from the post about the full list of Classics that mine was made in 2000.  I was just a little surprised to see the key-lock mechanism but I suppose they were around by 2000.
