9mm X 18mm mak ammo
« on: August 01, 2008, 01:38:56 PM »
I guess everyone is buying up the 9mm mak ammo because some places are out of it.  Its a great round to shoot and i like the CZ82's. I did find a rare CZ83 in 9mm mak too.

Its funny that the 380acp ammo is more expensive over the other 9mm rounds too. I did find a CZ83 in 380acp at a price i couldn't pass up too.  I been watching out for a CZ83 in 32acp too that would round out my collection of CZ's.

The CZ85DB in 9mm luger was my very first 9mm  pistol and its been flawless.  These are well made awesome pistols.  If you don't have a CZ82 in 9mm mak i'd get one right away. I'm hoping the ammo supply calms down soon.

I've had two CZ-82's and sold them both.  I've tried to find a use for them and simply can't.  They're too big to be an effective concealed carry pistol and they're too small to be a full-size service sidearm.  Back when Russian 9x18 ammo was cheap and plentiful they made sense as a range blaster, but Russian ammo is no longer cheap nor plentiful.  I'm not disparaging the CZ; I'm just saying that their role is a limited one.

Having said that, there are two unique situations where they are an excellent choice.

1.  The Southpaw.  Except for ejection, the CZ-82 is completely ambidextrous and carries well with either the hammer down or cocked-and-locked.  I can't think of a better all-around gun for a left hander.  They even come with an ambidextrous holster that's actually not too terrible a choice for concealed carry.

2.  The Man With One Gun.  Because of its compromise size and caliber, it makes a great single weapon that does everything pretty well.  It's inexpensive, well-made, reliable, and ammo is still comparitively reasonable if not dirt cheap like it used to be.

When my brother, who never owned a handgun in his life, wanted to purchase a nightstand gun for under $250 I sold him my last remaining CZ.  I believe it's a good choice for him since he will also use it occasionally as a truck gun, but I simply can't find any use for them that isn't better served by some other weapon in my collection.

After many years of carrying a ruger redhawk in 44mg most of the time,  a 1911 in 45acp and a ruger snub nose in 357mg on and off  I downsized to a CZ82 in 9mm mak.  So far i like it.

As i get older i hate carrying heavy bulky guns for my CCW. I won't go any smaller than a 9mm mak in caliber.
