RL 15 and 9.3x62
« on: August 02, 2008, 03:10:22 AM »
Used 250 gr. Barnes TSX and worked up to 60 grns. of Rl-15.  I have a CZ 550 FS so the load was well within published limits.  3/4" groups at 100yds.  No signs of any pressure problems.  I am sure for someone wanting more velocity there is more to go if you choose to.  I also noticed that is was less recoil than the 286gn. loads I worked up before.  Quite pleasant for a Thumper!  This load is ready to hunt in Africa next year.  My 30-06 still needs some work doesen't seem to like 180grn. Interbonds.  Accubonds next on the docket.

Northeastern Namibia 6 hours from the Caprivi.  Kudu, Gemsbuck, Eland, Warthog, and Zebra are on the list we will see what is availablein size.  A special Kudu and Warthog are on the main want list as far as size in animals.  My reasons to go to Africa are yes to hunt but to take in the African experience.  I wanted to go to an area that was more of older Africa so I chose Namibia, there are others that would have been just as good, just my choice.  Hunting area is fairly flat but has a fair amount of brush.  Therefore one must spot and stalk shots getting out to no more than 125 yds.  There are cats here mostly Leopard some chetah very few lion.  Some buffalo but not very many.  I am going to hunt plains game only for my first trip then I will reacess all when I get home.  Africa to me is a road you pull on to.  How far you go and how long you stay on the road is an individual thing.  I need to experience before I can plan another trip.   I am very excited!!!  Buckfever

;)

I am in love with Namibia! The place has some magic. My sister stays in Windhoek. On one of our visits to her
we drove through Botswana and entered Namibia at Gobabis. Your hunt should be close to this area?
This is warthog and kudu heaven. It was just after sunset and we had to really keep our eyes open for all
the animals on the road.
