209x50 pistol range report/?
« on: August 03, 2008, 05:21:22 PM »
;D ;D hey guys made it to the range today . the gun shot great so far . only shot it at 42 yds . i used 90 gr 777 2 f t/c 240 in the black sabot. i didnt measure it but i would say it was about 2 1/2 in. 3 shot group . i swabbed with a solvent soaked patch then a dry between shots . i put a bushnell trophy 1x28 red dot on it with a weaver rail . i was wondering if i took the walnut forarm off . then took the ramrod holding studs off . could i use the regular pistol rubber forarm with the factory screws. i was looking for a 209x50 rubber forarm but cant seem to find one maybe they dont make them. i thought
the rubber one would be better to rest on things. i think that with a bit of practice this will be a great deer set up .

they do not make a rubber forend for the 209x50. I wish they did. when I ordered my 209x50 it came with a well used forend (ordered it from EDs TCs) I sanded down the forend and painted it black to match the rest of my stocks. looks good.
I also called kinght rifles and had them build me a custom ramrod for it The price was  around $20-30 and well worth it. The custom ramrod had a screw in /out jig built into it. it extend a few inches so it reached the bottom of the barrel and I don't have to carry the screw on jig that came with the barrel. all I do is turn it a few turns and pull the jig down and lock it in place and  to store it I unlock it and push it back up in the ramrod and lock it back in. only takes a few seconds.

Thats great !

I just shot mine at the range today for the first time, I started with 65 grains of Goex Black Powder with a 250 grain T/C cheap shot sabot at 40 yards HOLY COW thats got a little rip to it !
I lowered it to 50 grains and it was much better. I know its a really light load but Ill play with it and see just what it shoots best. But I will bet with only 50 grains in it it will pass right through a deer at 50 yards or less which is longer than I have shot any of my muzzleloader deer.

Anyway it shot a 1 5/8" group @ 40 yards.

It is a blast to shoot and am looking forward to harvesting a deer or bear with it as well as a lot more range time.

One thing that I noticed is that it loads easier than my 209x50 rifle, This pistol barrel is a very early one that does NOT have the easy load front end that the later ones did but it still loaded and started very easy.

Keep your rang reports comming......

You know...If a guy took and sanded up the wood forearm and got some spray on bed liner and applied it to the wood forearm I think that would have a good feel to it and be a closer match to the rubber grip....What do you guys think (besides a little red neck'ish).

I took and sanded mine and sprayed it flat black and put about 10 coats of flat lacer on it looks good, never thought about the rubber undercoating or bead liner sprays

Might be a few things out there you could use. Just before reading your post, I was thinking of inlaying some sheeted rubber right into the forend in critical places, in stylish fashion of course.  ;D

b44mag,

Glad you like it. I'm the one who sold it to you.  I never had a chance to shoot it, so I'm glad it is working well. Let us know what you harvest with it this fall.

Interesting.  May have to look for a barrel for my 209x50 rifle.

These barrels are capable of exceptional accuracy.  Off of a rest, they'll do well on paper out to about 100 with sabots, and are probably fine charged up for hunting 80 and in, providing you have a good rest or sandbag to shoot from.  I like the 325s, but they jump hard at hunting loads.  I've used the powerbelts, but they aren't as accurate for me, and they are punishing.  Use a rubber grip. and it'll help.
