7-30 Encore Barrel
« on: July 29, 2003, 06:16:46 AM »
I have procrastinated in my purchase of what I had originally wanted.  That being a 12" stainless encore barrel chambered in 7-30 Waters.  T/C Custom shop said 10-12 weeks, which pushes me too close to hunting season.  Can anyone direct me to a faster, yet still affordable option?  I would consider a similar caliber and perhaps even a blued or matte barrel, but would like to stay as close to my preferences as possible.

Thanks for any help in advance.

how about a factory 7-08? i have a 15" stainless model. you can load it a little light to get 7-30 waters performance, or push it to it's potential. 40.gr of h4895 should be close to the 7-30 waters with 120gr nosler bt's. i used that load last year but havn't chronographed it yet. factory ammo options, no brass forming. in the contender, i'd get a 7-30, but in the encore, i'd look real hard at the 7-08. :gun4:

I have definitely considered that option and may well end up going in that direction.  The 15" barrel does seem a bit heavy though, and I would prefer no drilling for iron sights, only scope mounts,   but that is probably asking too much in short notice.  The 7-08 is my favorite caliber.  I even have one ins 7-08AI that will really shoot.

Thanks,

Since you are wanting it in a hurry, you could check with Ed.  He lists the following that are similar to what you want
10" 7BR
10" 708
12" 708

This would get you a barrel to hunt with under 2 bills, then you could sell it and order what you want after your season ends.

BTW, those are all blued.

Given the short time frame, you may post wanted adds in the classified section.  Other than that, non of the barrel makers would get it any quicker than around 10 weeks from experence.  SSK probably could make it up in less than the 10 weeks, but it's more $$

i agree, i prefer no sights myself. so i just removed the sights(front and rear) and use filler screws to fill the holes. i got them at a local smith, and it don't look too bad.
