Browning BAR 30-06 1987
« on: August 06, 2008, 12:58:45 PM »
I just picked up a 1987 BAR 30-06 in beautiful condition. Just wondering if there are any quirks I should be aware of with this rifle. Thanks,Wayne

One other thing ... anyone tried to fit one of the Limbsaver recoil pads to the butt end of one of these? They say you have to cut 1/4 inch off the butt end ... anybody tried it?   Thanks again,Wayne

Your 30-06 BAR should have fairly light recoil for a 30-06. I would try to avoid cutting any wood & find one to fit or get a slip on pad if need be. They also have the pads you 'grind' to fit.

Thanx,Sourdough, for the input; you're right, the recoil isn't much to worry about ... I just wanted to get a little extra length - I'm real long in the arms ... but  I'm like you I don't want to cut wood unless I absolutely have to !! Thanx again, Wayne

Unless you are concerned about reselling it - cut the stock to fit the new pad. It is a light recoiling rifle however the pad is really nice and will give you an extra inch of length. My rifles are shooters so I am less concerned about collectors value.
