What scope.

What scope do you guys put on your rifles.  On my 243 I have a Simmons Atec 2.5x10 x 44mm, when I get my 308, I am not sure what I am going to put on it.  Just look for some help on deciding.  Thanks.

Hard to believe you asked an opinion and haven't got a thousand answers.  In the simmons price range the Barska fits a Handi perfectly, this is a 3-9X40, nearly as low as they get with the perfect configuration to fit the Handi Hammer.  Larry

On the .223's and .357's I use Bushnell Sportsman's.  Either a 4X, 3X9 or 4X12.   Every other caliber has a Bushnell Banner 3X9.

FWIW, I like Burris glass, as it's American made, clear, has solid turret adjustments and is an all-around good "middle of the road" solution.  There are certainly better scopes - but buying a top-shelf scope for EACH rifle would mean LESS rifles at the end of the day.

Whats your price range?

I went thru scope after scope years back and decided for my money Leupold was THE scope. most of my handi's wear them VXII and a couple M8's.

A couple of the guys on here convinced my the quality of the cheaper scopes have come up in recent years. After purchasing a couple I agree they have come along, still not to the Leupold's but not at there cost either. There is a couple I liked for about 100beans.

Lower end Nikon on sale can be had for just over the 100 mark.

 I have three PENTAX scopes that I really like, also but need to be fixed power to keep at/ just below the $100. Also the variables tend to have less light gathering. So you may be better with the fixed power anyhow with them.

As for the rings, i prefer the Leupold as well PRW and the QRW's are TOP NOTCH!!  I have also had good luck and fit with the older 4x4 rings from Weaver. Burris "ZEE" are popular and all steel. I used to really like them but the had problems with quality control some years back. they wouldn't fit all weaver bases and required "tweaking" sometimes this resulted in broken rings. Also they stuck to a archaic screw diameter that liked to strip. So I abandoned them. This was a couple years back, so possibly fixed now.

Just bought a Nikon Prostaff for 109 $ through www.natchezss.com 3-9x40 BDC reticle really nice scope. My next scope is gonna be a Leapold. I think the the more handis you have the more scopes you will have to try. Myself I started with 100-150$ Next is 150-200 give or take. So many opinions Midway has customer comments. I have a bunch of Nikon Prostaff scopes on H&Rs, they're great scopes for the money. The only problem with that Nikon BDC scope is it's refurbished with just a 90 day warranty. :-\ You can get the lifetime warranted version for just a bit more at $131 and a little less shipping at GBO sponsor Midsouth.  ;)

IMO you can't beat a Bushnell period.  I just wish the 1.5-4.5X32 didn't need such high rings.  If you live near a BassPro Shop, they are having some fantastic sales on scopes starting tomorrow.

I started with a Simmons Pro Hunter 4x12 AO on my .223, then moved it to the .17 HMR when that came along.  The .223 has a Tasco Varmint 6.5x24 AO now.  I wanted the mil-dot for PD shooting. I was looking for another Tasco for the new to me .204 when I found a Centerpoint 4x16 AO with a mil-dot reticle at Wally world - I like the Centerpoint better than the Tasco, so far.  They're both in the $70 range -  I've been happy with Millet angle-loc rings in either medium or high.

I know I might get a little grief on this but, I have a BSA Sweet 223 on my Ultra Varmint 2. I first bought a BSA when a friend of mine recommended the Sweet 17 on my Savage 93. It has the built in trajectory compensation (out to 300 yds) for various bullet weights. I liked it so much that I bought the Sweet 243 for the wife's rifle...plenty of light, clear sight picture and I can consisntently get sub-3/4" groups at 100yds with her rifle. I also have a Sweet 22 on my Marlin.

I was sold an ordered the Sweet 223 for my Ultra. She is not broken in yet...going to the Range tomorrow to finish breaking in the barrel. Don't over look the BSA's. For the money, they are not too bad.

I picked up a couple of Nikon Prostaffs today at BPS.  The prices in the flyers they mailed out on the Bushnells were incorrect, and they wouldn't honor them.

I like Weavers.  I put a used Weaver 4X on my .30-30 barrel that works for me.
