TC Scopes
« on: August 07, 2008, 10:56:38 AM »
I didn't want to hijack the other scope thread but I was curious if anyone knows who makes the TC scopes and what have been your experiences with them (the 2.5-7 power).

Thanks....

Couldn't say who actually makes them other than I believe most are made in Japan. I have had 3, 2 currently. First one was a lighted reticule 4X rail mount on a TC Scout , used it for over 10 years, no problems. I have 2X-7X EER mounted on my 357 Max contender, stays zeroed, no problems after about 300 rounds. Also have 1.5X-5X mounted on my TC Triumph, been shot about 75 times, very accurate with no problems so far.

I think the T/C 2.7X and 3-9X handgun scopes are of quite good quality.  I use a couple and haven't had any problems with them.

I will agree with the above posts. I believe the scopes are of good quality and stand up well to a fair amount of punishment. I currently have three of the T/C pistol scopes. They are mounted on .357 maximum, .44 magnum and a .444 Marlin barrels. Not a problem with any of them.

I have two 2x7  "scopes, I think they're great, but they seem to black out at 6 or 7 power, I don't know why.

I emailed T/C on 28 July 2008 and asked this question:
What companies make the T/C Hawken Hunter Muzzleloader riflescopes and T/C pistol scopes?

They answered me with this:
Unfortunately, I don't have that information. Thompson Center has different scope manufacturers make the scopes to their specifications, and then they back them with their lifetime warranty. The actual manufacturer can vary from time to time.

One of my shooting buddies got a 2x7 T/c scope. When we compared them side by side, My Leupold 2.5x8 was MUCH clearer. I could see deer a lot later in the evening than he could also. He looked thru my scope and saw them. Of course , MY Leo cost twice what his T/C did.

They are good scopes for the buck. Black out at 6-7X? I have a picky Weaver that whites out, then blacks out at the higher magnification ranges.

Here's what I've found out. The black out is the product of eye relief, the distance of the scope from your eye.  The more magnification, the closer it needs to be to your eye to eliminate this blackout.  The higher powers place more pressure on you to maintain the exact distance.
