too early for fall food plot?
« on: August 08, 2008, 03:01:35 PM »
im here in extreme sw corner of mo and the forecast is looking like some rain for the weekend.i have a bout a half acre food plot ive dozed off in a 30 acre stand of timber adjoining a couple hundred acres of woods and pasture land. id like to disk it up and plant  some brassica, biologic, turnips and clover. we just had a inch of rain and i just fertilized with some rank turkey manure.origanlly it was a post oak flat before i dozed it. i know it prob needs some lime but i have no way of getting any. am i too early yu think?id hate to plant and sprout and then it get burned up. the brassica has a 45 day perod to grow 2 ft tall. this is a new plot and id like to be sure of getting deer in there before season in mid to late nov.any thoughts or advice would be appreciated.

We did ours too early last year.  I think it would have been ok if had rained a bit more.  Were gonna try for a early/mid october food plot this year and see how the clover/alphalfa turns out.  Its raining hard this weekend so lets hope the soil retains the moisture.
I'm voting 3rd party in this election by writing in Jesus Christ for president.  Sadly even if this were an option most of you would still vote Republican because "It's a two party system."

the food plot really turned out good so far but i was lucky and got plenty of rain right after i planted it. that was unusual for august.i planted another one last week but it hasnt been rained on yet to sprout.just have to see how it does.
