About 458 Lott

Hello my name is Oscar, I am from Spain and found the pleasant surprise of this forum. Well the question is who want to buy a 458-calibre rifle in Ceska Lott and I would like to hear your views on gun and caliber, especially the caliber (down, forcefulness).

Buenos dias Oscar,

Welcome to the forum.

I'm thinking Ceska may be what we know as CZ?

If so, I have a CZ 550 Safari Magnum in 458 Lott that I'm quite happy with.  It's heavy as pretty much any rifle in this caliber will be.  In any case, if it were too light, the recoil would be painful.  It's also accurate.

A frequent complaint about CZ rifles in heavy recoiling cartridges is a tendency for the stock to split.  The newer ones have cross bolts which should prevent this problem.  I shot mine for about 100 rounds before having it glass bedded (another way to prevent the problem) and have had no problems with it.

The CZ 550 has a nice cushy recoil pad which makes shooting it off the bench fairly comfortable.

You mean that he can split the butt to Cz? go is a fairly serious problem. Where can solve this problem? I suppose that what a good dealer can fix.Gracias Grumulkin, by the way, excellent grouping.

The easy ways to prevent a split stock are:

1.  Get one of the newer models that has cross bolts.
2.  If it doesn't have cross bolts, take it to a gunsmith who can install cross bolts.
3.  Have a gunsmith do a good glass bedding job.  This is what my gunsmith did and he said a good glass bedding job worked as well as cross bolts.
4.  You could have a composite aftermarket stock installed.  This would be the most expensive way to go.

I own the CZ 550 American Safari Mag. 458 Lott. That rifle is balanced. Very accurate. doesn't kick real bad.

I have shot it threw 6" of OAK with a soft point and it kept on going.

Hola,

tambien tengo yo el CZ 550 American safari en .458 lott.  Si tenia el problema con la madera, se me rompio.  Pero lo voy a mandar a CZ_USA, y ellos me dijieron que iban a arreglarlo todo.  Vamos a ver lo que sale.  Pero el mio ya tiene como 4 o 5 anios, los rifles nuevos de CZ ya son atornillados para que no se rompe. 

Pa que lo va a usar?  Si tiene mucho poder.  Creo que algo tan poderoso solo serria necesario en Africa, pero no es solo para cazar.  El disparar tambien esta bien divertido, claro que los amigos lo van a querer disparar.

  I want the rifle first and foremost by having. I have no other hobbies, so I think that is going to be a good expenditure. The truth is that I will not go to Africa to hunt, but just pleased to shoot something really powerful, and it's worth.

Just took the .458 out for the first time since it has had the muzzle brake on it... and holy crap what a difference.  I am not kidding you, this is a 50% reduction muzzle brake.  Put on by the fine gentleman at wild west guns in anchorage.  The large ports make it so it doesn't make your ears implode either.

Good ear muffs solve all of that problem.  The larger ports on this one cut down quite a bit on the blast and boom from the brake.  I went out and put about 35 rounds through it yesterday, and loved it 100%.  The less hurt in the shoulder definitely outweighed the extra noise.

$4.00/cartridge here in the US for 458 lott if you buy factory.  Costs me about $0.75 a bullet reloading it, so not all too bad.

I need to think about doing during recharge. Here in Spain there is a need to do a course and then apply for approval. It is more complicated than in your country, but I can see that it is worth.
