The first buck was taken in PA by my friend Barry on his farm. The second was taken by Allen the son of his neighbor also on his farm just at the edge between their two farms but on my friend's farm.

Barry's buck is an eight point and Allen's is called a ten but that tiny little 10th barely at best is a point. I'd likely call it an nine if it were mine. Both were taken yesterday on PA firearms season opener.

Barry used a Ruger 77 International that was gonna come south to me but I was a bit undecided on it and he liked it so he kept it. It was purchased by him thru another GBO member who lives near him.

Barry's 2008 buck.

Allen's 2008 buck.

Nice buck! Congrats to the shooter!! Good mass and good spread. I like that little spurt of a point on the end of the left one. No doubt it's a 10 point! Absolutely a 10!!

And in another 5 or 6 years....after 3 or 4 Jack's 'n coke's....it will be a MONSTER 10...the biggest one ever taken in the county!   ;D

Hey...you only live once.

Well,...I had my mentored hunter with me Monday and not a single buck passed thru our hunting area.  Saw only three does.  He was all fired up to shoot his first buck, but that will have to wait again until Saturday.  I took tuesday to hunt for myself, and being I didn't have any in the freezer yet, I was prepared to shot a doe if I had to.  After I took the boy to school, it was just before 9:00 when I entered the top of the woods down from my house.  Twenty five minutes or so later I was still hunting my way toward a few fellow hunters, one of which was a youth.  Isn't it funny how deer can materialize out of thin air,  because that is what happened.  After standing in a spot for around 5mins and glassing, I failed to notice the ones right in front of me.  Well at least they were heading in the right direction, toward the youth.  I figured on setting up in the creek bottom in case they circled around,....boom....I heard the shot but saw nothing.  Then in front of me moving  up hill and to the right I see two good doe.  Must have been my lucky day because suddenly they turn and run across the hill in my direction.  I watch were the first passes through, and found a clearing to shoot.  I wait for the second to trot into place and stooped it in its tracks with a mouth grunt.  BooOOM goes my Prohunter Muzzleloader, and after the smoke clears....Boom I hear again from near the youth.  What the heck!  Can't figure that one out so as I'm reloading the two doe have run up hill and as I finish reloading, I see only one doe return and hurried away.  Good sign.  So I walk the 90 or so paces to where I shot to and see a whole lot of blood.  Another good sign.  I meet up with the youth hunter who took a 4 point, good for him I say,  too bad my son wan't with me today I think to myself, and finish trailing my doe.  Best luck of the day, she was piled up 25 feet from the road in a brushpile.  Across the road is my house.  Not a far drag at all.  Weighed in at 95lbs at Fredericktown Deer Shop.  The second shot I heard was the youth hunter finishing his 4 pointer.  Of the 12 other hunters I hunt with No one saw a shooter buck. 4 points on one side, and none took a doe.  Times are getting bad in this area.  Where most everyone tagged out the first day with decent bucks.  I'm happy I got one in the freezer.

I spent the afternoon up Quebec Run and saw only two other hunters.  One I spoke with said the first day was heavily populated with orange.  I saw 6 doe no buck.  Not sure where we'll go Saturday.

Stay safe.

Saw nothing but some BIG bear tracks up near Kane, PA.  I already had my Ohio venison in the freezer so no big deal.  The herd up in the north area is way down since the new rules went into effect.

Monday morning about 11:00 I got lucky. I was sitting in my spot on the state game lands betting with myself about how many more times I'd see the same 5 yearlings and the 1 doe come past my stand. A few hunters decided that they wanted to check out the ajoining private and POSTED land and as they made their little illegal drive through that area, they sent a decent 8 point my way. I pick him up from the butcher tonight.

The nerve of some people. Did you even invite them over for a backstrap Ka-bob and a brew?  ;D

No, They were out of sight by the time I got to my deer. And since the deer went in their direction and I followed, I kinda think they didn't really want to meet any strangers at the time. But I would have been sure to thank them for their efforts.

My son shot his first real buck, a mature 6 point. He had an old wound that I think prevented him from having bigger antlers. I shot a very big doe as did my young daughter. We have not seen lots and lots of deer, but everyone had had at least one chance at a buck, there is a very big 12 point that walked past my daughter, a little too much brush to shoot. It has been a good season and we still have a day to finish. There are enough in the freezer if it ends the way it is. This heavy snow might make the last 2 day fun. Shotgunner

I hunt in western Perry (4B) and have had a good year. I shot a nice 8 point the first day (my first buck since the first year of antler restrictions) and saw over 35 deer that day. Then I got a doe last Saturday and had passed on 12 other deer before I got her. The amazing thing is I was out of the woods with my deer before 8 am both days.
