CVA Wolf...Thoughts?
« on: August 10, 2008, 03:14:49 PM »
Just wondering what others' opinion is of the CVA Wolf magnum rifle.  I'm looking at buying either a Wolf or an Optima.  I've looked at several different model guns and just don't want to spend a lot of money on a rifle that I will only be hunting with two or three days a year.  I only plan on hunting deer with it and at max distances of less than 150 yards.  If I ever go on a big hunt, I may invest a little more.

I've been really looking at the CVA Wolf in camo stock with a Nickel barrel.  It's actually a good looking gun in that setup and my local gun shop will sell it to me for $199 plus a free pack of bullets.  That's a hard deal to beat.  Most of the reviews I've been reading about the wolf are really good.

Just wanted to get some thoughts.  How many of you own one?  Do you like it?  Which pellets / powder do you use?  Which bullets do you shoot?

Thanks!

I had one and really liked it.
Accurate enough for deer to 100 yards with 100 grains RS and a 250 grain .44 sabot.

Made my purchase last night!  I ended up purchasing a CVA Optima Pro.  It came packaged with a Tasco Silver Antler 3x9x40 scope, a Claw sling, and the scope mounts and rings.  It was a great deal for the price.  It's the camo stock and nickel barrel.  I'm looking forward to getting out and testing it at the range.  It may be a couple of weeks before I can get out though.

I bought Triple Seven pellets, 223 grain PowerBelt bullets, and Winchester primers.  Hopefully, my gun likes them...

I really looked at the new Accura before purchasing the Optima.  I don't think there is enough of a difference in the two guns to justify the difference in cost.  I got the package deal above for $299.  The Accura alone with no accessories was $379.  Then I would have had quite a bit more in a sling, scope, bases, rings, etc.

They're both nice guns though...you can't go wrong.

To tell you the truth, I've looked at so many different ones the last week or two that I don't really remember the specific action on the Accura.  I know the release is built into the trigger guard, same as the Optima.  So I really don't remember it being any different than that of the Optima.
