To Many Loads and not Enought Time
« on: August 13, 2008, 02:08:55 PM »
I jumped into this shooting and loading thing pretty deep all at once ::)
Hunting season is getting close in a hurry and could use some help since
I have three projects that need to be ready to make clean harvest starting
in mid October.
As some of you know I am working up loads for my TC 7-30 for Coues deer
but My Daughters riffle is at the smiths right now having the new Lam. stock
bedded, New(my old Nikon Buck Master scope) mounted and boresighted
and trigger job being done.
With my newness of loading I could use some help to get into a good load
for the .08
I am reading all the loading manuals and they vary so much :-\

The weapon is a Remington model 7 in the youth version
chambered in 7MM-08.
My Daughter has taken a Antelope, Coues WT and Javelina at 300yds +
with this gun using factory loads but she wants to hunt with friends
this year so I may not be there to coach on a follow up shot ( She Has never needed one)
or tracking :'(

They all grow up :-\

Anywho, Can someone get me started in the right direction so she can start
putting some lead down range so I won't (yea right) worry about her with friends

Follow the information listed for your choice of bullet.  Either online or in the book.  Bullets vary in hardness so the pressure also varies.  DP

I stopped reloading for our 7-08s the Hornady Light Magnum ammo with the 139 grain Interlock is so accurate I can't possibly match it nor can I reload to that velocity. It's the ONLY load that has ever shot less than MOA in our original M7 with 18.5" barrel that is now my wife's rifle.

Thanks Graybeard
I looked on Hornady's web site and did not see interlocked

I am guessing I should be looking at the supershock #85574

Thanks again, I'll try them

I don't load for the 08 but can tell you that the rifle will not shoot the same with the old loads as before it was re-worked , it may be better or it may be worse .

The new stock and bedding job alone will affect the POI as it changes the harmonic's of the barrel , throw in a trigger job and thats just another issue to deal with .

Your going to have to look at this as a brand new rifle and work up your loads all over again , start with the old load and work from there .

Give the ball powders a try.  They work well for me and are a joy to work with.  Your manual will list several.

Hornady makes two 7-08 Light Mag loads. One uses their newer SST bullet and the other their 139 BTSP Interloct. That's the one I prefer of the two.
