KABAR2,   Had lots of fun shooting this gun at the Cannon and MG Shoot about 30 mile east of Denver, CO in 2005.  I believe he modified the primer pocket to fire .50 Cal. BMG primers.  A thin plastic baggy with 4 oz. of 1 Fg BP was tossed into the empty primed case, then a orange painted, zinc projectile was push-fitted into the case.  We placed all shots within 10 feet of a beach-ball sized rock at about 300 yards.  Allen, I bet you'll agree, that the sights on the Krupp 50 mm Mountain Gun can only be described as "CRUDE", but rugged, and rugged is definitely what you need in a mountain gun.

The owner of that gun to the right of Mike when he fired the Krupp told us that, up to '42, that Swedish Bofors 40 mm Anti-Tank Gun was feared by tank crews and it was used very effectively by almost all combatants in WWII as an Anti-Aircraft Gun up to a ceiling of 5,000 feet on low flying, ground attack aircraft.  It hit the center of a 3 foot square concrete wall repeatedly at 450 yards.

Dan,  I know from eating Christmas dinners at my uncle's house (Carlson) for 35 years, that I absolutely love Swedish cooking and Swedish baking, Limpa bread, so I would encourage everyone with any interest at all to pay strict attention to the details of your recipe.  And, after this MG and Cannon shoot, we certainly knew that Swedes built excellent anti-tank cannons as well.

We will have to get a reading from Tim as to whether this little mountain gun will be allowed.  I hope it will be.

Regards,

Tracy and Mike

the 40 mm is still in use despite it was developed in 1932 .
my son was an driver of an Hägglund combat wheicle 9040 during his military training days
they still use the 40 mm in them , but slightly modified .
the old anti aircraft gun was feed from the top , now they turned the gun upside down and have 3 magazines beneth it that you load with different types of ammo .
at 1000 yards they are capable to place an burst of 3 rounds in the head of an fullsize human target .
if I remember correct they fire 12 rounds per second in the cw 9040 gun .
here you have the result of an 3 shot burst in an car at 1500 yards
you could see the entering holes in whats left of the door panel . I would estimate it to be maximum 6 - 7 inch between them , todays war machines are incedible accurate .

Kbar - a few of this type of thing is cool.  The general emphasis must be in parallel with the rules and focus of this forum.  The shoot is an informal shoot.  We take the risks and responsibilities.  There is no profit nor any fees collected.  And there is no connection (other than announcing it here) with GBO.  Let me know (send a pm or email) what you have in mind.

Dan - I WILL be working up that recipe!  Results TBA.  Thanks!

Hi Guys,

I don't think I'll make it up there this year, I just found out my wife the love of my life has cancer so my attention will be focused elsewhere.

If I read the notices correctly, the N.R.V. shoot is the same weekend as the NSSA Nationals near Winchester VA.  I think I will be watching the mortar match at Fort Shenandoah on Fri afternoon.

Well, we didn't have enough time to completely finish the 7" Brooke, so whoever shows up can shoot it and can explore it's newly made eccentric shoe upper carriage lifting mechanism and the reciprocating elevation mechanism too.  We have spent some time on making it more accurate than the last posted results, so we are pretty sure that water jugs at 250 yards are dead meat!  We are bringing the Mallet's Mortar too.  For those of you too young to remember that thread, it's not full size  :o :o, but it looks pretty cool and shoots very well.

Thanks for posting that map, Tim.  We can't imagine anyone having much trouble finding the place with that.  We are looking forward to seeing you all and having some fun in Virginia!!

Best regards,

Mike and Tracy

Let me first post a more accurate address: 561 FERNEY CREEK RD NW, WILLIS, VA  24380.  (That will put the marker in about 100yds up the road.)

We are looking forward to the shoot!

I'll be brining the 4.55" and some things in beer-can caliber and the usual assortment.

The Seacoast guys have arrived in the New River valley and have crossed that river four times between 11 PM and Midnight trying to find pipe cleaners!  We tried two Food Lions, a Walmart and two convenience stores and finally found them at a Kroeger.  We are happy to hear that the weather will be nice at 70 to 75 degrees and sunny.  See you all there at around noon.

Regards,

Mike and Tracy

SHAZAM!

We'll be there a little early and try to have the range hot at noon.

Planning to shoot till 4:30pm.  (Due to other committments, and I think that will be plenty of time to keep it interesting.)  Off site by 5pm.

(T&M - can I interest you in  a steak afterwords or something like Japanese as like we did last year?)

THE opening round of the NRV M&C 2nd Annual Shoot was fired by Mike of Seacoast Artillary - as a matter of fact the first two rounds were 'kills' at a measured 100 yards.

Wayne - it was good to meet you.  (Thanks Dom for sending the golf ball mortar with him!)

Pictures later - I need to CLEAN the blackpowder residue (by hot soapy water and then oil down after of course).

Douglas - it was a very pleasant surprize for the shoot to be interrupted by your call!  THANKS!
