Got Fed Up So....
« on: August 14, 2008, 08:40:43 AM »
I finally got fed up with all the problems (whether perceived or true) with the barrel accessory customer service issues so I cancelled my order for a 44 Mag barrel.  Ed with H&R/Remington says I should get my receiver and personal check back within 2 weeks. :'(

BUT, (and wish me luck with the Mrs.) I went to the local gun shop and bought an H&R 444 Marlin with wood stock.  This gun is quite a beauty and  I can't wait to get it cleaned up and install a scope on it. ;D

H&R/Remington still got my money but I think I'll be much more satisified with another complete gun.

You'll like the 444, mine shot good out of the box with several factory rounds and excellent with three different handloaded rounds from the 240gr XTP and 265gr Hornadys to 355gr cast bullets. You can always get another barrel or three later after the factory gets all the bugs worked out at the new facility.  ;)

They got my Buffalo Classic back for a botched 22-250 barrel install the old factory did 2 months ago.

I been thinking the same thing. Buy a whole 22-250 and leave the Buffalo classic alone.  If it don't get worked on withing the time frame they told me when I sent it I might call and ask the same question.

I'll definitely be using factory ammunition.  I've heard and read lots about the Hornady Leverolution.  This is a brand new caliber to me.  What other factory offerings are out there?

Thanks,,,,,

That ammo is pretty pricey!  I may need to reload.  I presently reload for my 243 with one of the Lee original hand loaders.  Does anyone make a hand loader in 444?

Thanks,

I think Lee used to make one, but they no longer list it.  :-\

You could get a Lee Hand Press.  I'm thinking about buying one, over on another forum that specializes in long range stuff, their bullet runout was less with the Lee than their expensive presses!

There are several presses out there that are affordable.  Lee does have a good product at a low price.  My 444 is also a good shooter, and if you load your own, they don't have to kick so hard to be quite effective.  Kinda like the 45-70 that way only less.  Less powder, less bullet weight=less recoil.  Now before all the 45-70 guys start on me, I have one of those too, and like it, but it can push you around if loaded up. :o  I think you are really gonna like it and will be looking for more.  DP.

Well, since they told me my ifle would be done in two weeks five weeks ago I don't think I'd count on getting that back in two weeks. Found out today they have a backlog in shipping because they ran out of boxes. At least that's the explanation they gave me for my rifle being in "packing" all week. Said it would ship out "sometime early next week". Sure it will.....

I'm hoping you guys get so disgusted you sell me those Handis for a little of nothing.  Remington is the greatest gun company in the world.  They will get it sorted out.

Will they get it figured out before or after my week long muzzleloader season in early October.  I mean I know it is short notice, having only received my order on the 16th of June.....

From the NEF website.

"During periods of high demand, please allow six to eight weeks for delivery of your additional barrels or accessories."

It hasn't been 8 weeks yet.

It's been nine weeks and four days since they got it, actually. And the source of my concern is they have had so much trouble even figuring out where it is in the process at any given time that I'm not 100% sure they haven't just lost it.

I talked to a Remington Rep. at one of the local stores today.  Asked about the problems they are having with the NEFs and he did mention they were have some problems with a few barrels not being fitted right.  Also said he wasn't aware of any changes planned right away for the Handirifles.  Told him I had sent 2 frames off 2 months ago to have barrels fitted and he advised to call again and ask to be moved up the chain of command if not satisfied with the answer I got.  I'll have to try again next week, have been trying to give them some time as I know this has to be a bit rough to get 2 new lines added to the company.  All in all, he had no answers.  DP
