TC Black Diamond XR .50
« on: August 16, 2008, 06:39:47 PM »
Bought one the other day as a back up to my Omega Z5 and for use in areas that do not permit closed breech inlines or scopes as she wears an aperture rear sight. I must say she's a very impressive rifle in terms of accuracy and consistency. I would hate to have to live on the difference between her and the Omega when similarly sighted. Right now she's averaging well under 2 inches for 3 rounds at 100 yards. I'm looking foward to getting some groceries with this one. Although dirtier than the closed breech designs, plunger type inlines are still a solid value and models like the Black Diamond which can used all 3 ignition types , are also extremely versatile. I'm glad I got mine!

The Black Diamond is an under-rated gun, IMO.  I've had a couple of different ones, and they all shot very well.  My buddy has one that he uses every year.  He took 4 deer with it last year.  I'll tell you what, for the money, I don't know if there's a better gun to be had, especially if you look at the used market.  I used to use mine for coyote hunting, as I could reload it faster than my Omega.  Of course, then I traded it for something that I can't even remember (and don't have now), so I've been looking at them again.   :D

Am looking for a good used one myself.  Several of my friends hunt with the TC  Black Diamond and it is as accurate and reliable as any muzzleloader out there.

I do most of my hunting with a black diamond.  I have a few of them and for the price you can't beat them.  I had a 50cal XR but sold it before I ever shot it, I do have a 45cal XR that is a great shooter, and a couple 50 cals with the short barrel that make great treestand/blind guns.  If there was away to eliminate the blowback they would be about perfect.

As of yesterday, there was a sweet looking one on auctionarms, blued/synthetic that looked almost new for $99.00!!  Can't beat that with a stick!

i have shot a renegade for years......accurate with 370 gr maxi ball once i found the right load......then a few years ago i decided to get an inline......1. for longer shots...2. my son is getting older and he can shoot 1......3. i can take a non muzzle loader hunting it i want someone to go with me.........
anyway i got a deal on a new black diamond w camo stock.......this is a very underrated gun...................i thought long and hard about an encore....(i am a tc person as i have had a contender since 1979) .....anyway i heard too much bad stuff about the encore especially the crud gettting into the firing pin area and hard to get out, so i bought the BD.....great gun.........the BD is easys to clean.....mack

I just lucked up on a BD in a pawn shop recently for $50.00 Came with tools, 209, #11, and musket cap nipples.  Even had sabots and pellets in the pack.

I tried it today at the range with TC Maxi hunters and 777.  All in the black at 100 yds offhand.  Blows a big hole.  Good enough for the hunting I do.......

When I feel froggy I'll go back and try different bullets and loads, but for now I've got a bunch of the Maxi's I bought on close out.
