WHAT WILL YOU BE TARGETING THIS SEASON?
« on: August 17, 2008, 04:39:26 AM »
Just like to know what your target species will be this year? Looks like the water is the place to be.
I hope to chase fur a bit longer this year than last. Though Mike and I did take a lot of problem squirrels, it just is not the same as being waste deep in mud.

I'll be after coons mostly with mink and rats of course. Maybe come spring, the water will be low enough to safely go after beaver.

Wisconsin's DNR manages my piece of Rock River for the benefit of Horicon Marsh: they treat it like a drainage ditch.

I'll try my hand at coyotes again this year.We seem to have an increased red fox population. We have no water, zero, zip, zilch, nada and none.
I love the smell of coyote gland lure early in the morning. It smells like victory!!

I will start out after coon then mid November the boy and I will spend a weeks vacation chasing rats. After that I will pick and choose what to  chase depending a lot on the weather.

I'll be going after the same - fox, coyote, and pay more attention for cat sign.  Possibly coon and badger.
Thanks,
Trapper Jack

the same as every year- will open with yotes, fox and coon on land for 6 weeks, then into the water for mink, rats and coon, plus whatever otter and beaver I can find. Then late season snaring for coon and canines.

I firmly believe in putting your harvest into many baskets- something is always hot.

Start off with coyote, fox, and cat. Then coon.  Will move on to water trapping for beaver, mink, and otter as the weather cools. Lots of otter sign this year. ;)
