I personally think the whole situation sounds exaggerated. IG claims these bikers took over an hour to go by, I've got to call BS on that. Even if they were only doing 5 mph and riding single file (unlikely) there would have to have been over 2500 bikes to take that long to go by. If we assume that they were at least doing the speed limit, (say 25 mph) and riding two or three abreast (much more likely), then the number of bikers that would take that long to pass is bloody preposterous.

As has been said by others above, this was most likely a well organized charity event, and was certainly something that local LE was made aware of. My guess is that the route was pre-planned, and the traffic interruption was given the thumbs up in advance by city officials. I'd also bet a year of paychecks that it didn't take anywhere near as long as IG is making out.

    Beers;
     You have the temerity to say I am lying, if you knew me ..you would know better..but I shall relegate that to ignorance of the situation. Strange
  how you can call BS on the situation, when you weren't even there. Do you always call final conclusions upon something, even though you could
   not possibly know the surrounding facts ? If so, you must retain a high level of credibility in your community ! :P  :-*

  FYI: the original question is past and I find that most of us agree on some things, and agree to disagree on others..fair enough..

     What I am considering now, is your "judging from afar" when you could not possibly know the situation. Your uninformed statement about having
  been given thumbs up by "city officials" demonstrates your gross unfamiliarity with the situation. The only "city" in our county, where the cavalcade
   started, barely qualifies as a "city" being as the population is 14,799, the rest opf the county being very small towns , farms and a couple Indian reservations. It is highly unlikely that such a "city" could give a "thumbs up' for the entire county; they being in the SE corner and my little hamlet
 being in the NE corner !
         Don't know just how it worked, but after finally getting out and home (2 village blocks away and some 40 yds from the main route) I heard
  the groups continue through for at least an hour, not solid but still heavy traffic. Who knows, maybe they went around the block ? ;)
     Your boldness of calling someone you don't even know a liar, rather took me by surprise. You can take it or leave it, but folks around here know
   me as a man who, when he makes a serious statement.."you can take it to the bank".
If you don't want the truth, don't ask me.  If you want something sugar coated...go eat a donut !  (anon)

Apparently, you chose to disregard my use of the words "most likely" and "my guess is". If you possessed much reading comprehension you'd note that my statements contain an inherent admission of ignorance regarding exactly what went down. Since you were there, and you don't seem to know anything about the event in question other than that it occurred, all I can do is make guesses based on the information I do have. Just like you've done, so you can't really fault that.

I'm not calling you a liar, I wasn't there. For all I know things could have gone exactly as you say they did. I simply expressed my skepticism... do the math for goodness sake. Like I said, even at 5 mph and riding single file, for it to have taken an hour for them to go by there would have to have been a line of bikes 5 miles long - or roughly 2500 bikes. That's a pretty darn big rally for what you're describing as a tiny burg in the middle of nowhere. I rather suspected that you were possibly exaggerating a bit, we're all aware that 15 minutes can feel like an hour when your being held up with nothing to do but wait.

Also, you're now whistling a slightly different tune than in your first post. In the original post you made it sound like you were stuck in the parking lot for over an hour, and now you mention that you got home after a wait, and heard bikes going by outside for an hour. That's a bit of a difference.

Many will find this hard to beleive, but I'm speachless now. :o

  Beers;
    I reviewed my first post and didn't see an actual statement that I was blocked in for a full hour, but agree it could have sounded that
  way. The caravan was quite solid for some time..15-20 minutes I guess..finally it degraded into intermittent groups..whereupon I and
  others slipped out..the sounds continued , intermittently.. as I said for about an hour.
  Perhaps the greater blame rsides with the local authorities etc..we had no warning that such a traffic tieup would be coming, perhaps
  we would have been more prepared..

  In any case, I am done with the original post and have been so for some time..

You said you were speechless.

That is not consistant.

Slightly off topic, but  back when I rode motorcycles I lived next door to a guy who drove a "meat wagon"-- paramedics that take injured people to hospitals and occasionally to the morgue. He told me that nobody in the police, hospitals, or paramedics were particularly disturbed when a motorcyclist was injured or killed. There was the sense that cyclists assumed risk.

  Hey..this thing hasn't died yet ! I haven't been on this thread for some time.On Sunday, I was near the same corner mentioned in my early posts..the only traffic light (blinking red both ways) in this tiny hamlet and there were many cyclists travelling in groups, enjoying the sunshiny day, sure can't blame them for that !
  In any case, I purposely observed how they performed at the flashing light, if they were as performing just as the other drivers ...cars..trucks..buses etc do.
  I would be less than honest if I didn't admit that I saw some obvious lawbreaking. Other drivers stopped one-by-one and observed the  law at the flashing light. The cyclists would stop in groups of 10-15 vehicles then, instead of taking their "turn" at proceeding, would go through the light en-mass. Traffic did manage to proceed OK, but I rather wondered if motorcycles have a special dispensation to go through such intersections in groups...surely that would not work well if all motorists tried the same thing.
  Yes, I realize that a cycle has to be supported manually when stopped..but does that fact supercede the law ? Now, if I am wrong, and I may be ..don't give me emotion, just quote me the law and you will have me checkmated.

   In any case I have no grudge against cyclists, most are nice folks, it just bothers me when realizing that motorcyclists, like hunters have an "image" problem with the public and I explained that I ASKED, not DEMANDED a bit of courtesy and wanted to share with cyclists an image helper. Perhaps I was mistaken, but I didn't expect such a boistrous, macho attack as some handed me. Shucks, I thought we all shared the same planet and highways . ;) :D
   Honestly; if I hurt anyone's feelings or insulted anyone, you have my apologies..

  Atlaw; Thanks for the "heads-up" and i'll try to comply...

Biker jailed for YouTube stunt video
Story Highlights
Biker jailed for 12 weeks after posting YouTube stunts video
Police estimates put his speed at up to 210 kph (130 mph)
Ferenci admitted two counts of dangerous driving

(CNN) -- A biker who posted videos of himself on YouTube performing stunts and speeding at up to 210 kph (130 mph) has been jailed after inadvertently confessing his misdemeanors to police.

Sandor Ferenci posted video of himself online performing high-speed stunts.

Sandor Ferenci, 28, was approached by police after a motorist saw him speeding on his powerful motorcycle and noted his registration number.

When they called at his house in Oxfordshire, England, he unwittingly asked if they had seen his YouTube video -- prompting officers to search the Internet, where they found uploaded video of his hazardous riding.

  See Atlaw;
   I don't have a grudge against motorcyclists! As I said earlier, I have lots of friends who are "bikers"...although I must admit I am not very familiar with their "codes and customs" and now realize that I may have viloated something next to sacred with them..    But in any case, the shirt is great..but with your understanding, I am going to a Legion meeting tonight where I will be socializing with a couple of my biker friends..and I will pass the shirt to one of them, because I am sure they will wear iot more often than I would...and do it very proudly.

Well, this thing comes too a good head.
Now I have met this ol ugly---it is such an appropriate choice of words--trust me ;D ;) :-* and I have seen the spot.
This place is a good place too live---I found it beautiful.
IG is a good guy---ugly, but a good guy  ;)---I can say that from the safety net of long range and the internet--He and I spent a week one day examing this homeplace. It is all he says and more and so are the folks. I posted the other day that NY is the most beautiful state with a bad reputation, and, that is true--so is IG. Ignore the whole of this well worn thread and know that IG is my friend and a fine individual.
Blessings
