That would be your sad version of civilized. Delusional and narrow minded.

Well all I can say about the post is that if those who don't ride would be a little more courteous to those of us who do then some of the attitude might be different...

i have no doubt i.g. is a good fellow with lots to be proud of, including his family.   like i said, 95% of the time i agree with him.    it is just that in this case, he was in the wrong.
    we all make mistakes.  sometimes we dont see the bigger picture or the other side.  i believe that is what happened here.   putting a car in the middle of a procession that large is BEGGING for someone to get killed by the car.   and i am sure that is why they didnt let you in.
   i have read your posts about your family, and people you know who are big and tough.  i cant see one bit how that is relevent to this conversation.   everyone is somebody and knows people as well.  so what?

this is where you go off the deep end again.  you know nothing of those riding, make alot of assumptions about them and me and while you arent saying it,  you sure as hell are implying it.  and everyone knows it.

from that snippit of your post is where i took it as you saying that your friend gambled his way into the debt with them.   i believe most everyone else here took it the same way.

  Myron;
   I know we normally agree at least 95% of the time. Believe me, I do not dislike motorcyclists. Guess I am just long on courtesy and careful respect for others
  simply because I believe so strongly in "community".
  My values were set prior to the "sixties" so I sometimes come in conflict with post sixties  values. Undoubtedly, if we met face-to-face, we would probably soon be friends.

 "let the simple ones have their fun too".

I am having a hard time understanding how that statement is courteous or respectful. It is a generalization and stereotyping. I will be courteous and not elaborate in detail how I feel about this. >:(

Relax Cheese.   ;D  I understand your frustration, but those that don't understand the motorcycle club world may not.  They think all people who ride motorcycles are bikers and of one mentality.  And what they think that mentality is is probably based on what they've seen in the movies.  They don't understand the subculture.  I did find it interesting that the word "respect" was used so much in this thread.

I usually recommend this site to new riders in the hopes of helping them avoid making a dangerous, uh, social, mistake.  But, for what it's worth, here it is.

http://home.earthlink.net/~rcvsmc-edu/index.html

Mayhaps it will help those who don't ride understand the motorcycle club world a little better.

Cheese;
  You are concerned with the term, "let the simple ones have their fun too"..   Please read it in context.."I didn't mind the continuous horn blowing and revving of engines...let the simple ones have their fun too". The situation was one where there was no need to blow horns and rev engines and only a few (no broad brush) were doing it !  On that same small stretch
  of highway, I see teenagers sometime lay black strips of rubber and rev their engines to the red line where the speed limit is 35. I even see apparently novice truck drivers employ their Jake brake for nearly a block, when it is not needed at all and in fact is forbidden according to posted signs.
  I can and will assume that they either are A) craving attention or    B) don't have the knowledge it takes to drive most effectively    Likely the truck driver & the teenagers know how to drive better, so they must SIMPLY be  craving attention.
  That is not to say that as a teenager I didn't rev my engine or make unnecessary engine noise..but I was SIMPLE in craving attention so much. Later, I found out that
  most of the girls I tried to impress..were not..     They knew full well it doesn't take a special person tho press the "loud pedal".
  I may be out of the loop, but I think a grown man continuously blowing his horn & revving the engine has much in common with the simple teenager I once was.

  As with any true conservative, I am strong on personal rights ! Am I too logic driven in my thinking ?

Some people have no sense of humor and the ability to draw major conclusions from a simple incomplete sentance.

Many will find this hard to beleive, but I'm speachless now. :o

Cabin,
Take it from someone that gets bit on the butt alot by their own sarcasim.
Sarcasim takes away the oppertunity for one's comments to be taken objectively.
There aren't too many ways " I would just execute a lane change with my car at the time that motorcyclle came....." can be interpeted.

It wasn't even meant as sarcasm. It was pure poke at some fun.

Actually, I make sure to move over as much as I can for cycles when they come up in between the lanes. I see no need to hold them back and I don't own the road. I hate people that think they own the road or are there to enforce traffic rules using block and tackle tactics with there vehicle.

  Don't see that the motorcyclists were breaking any laws and it was a legal organized event.  Can't say as I agree with the method of walking into the raoday and playing traffic cop at all.  At that point you're crossing the line in my opinion.  I see ppl mentioning it being a respect thing...was asking them to alter thier event respect?  Would it have had different views if it was a different type of vehicle involved?

I personally think the whole situation sounds exaggerated. IG claims these bikers took over an hour to go by, I've got to call BS on that. Even if they were only doing 5 mph and riding single file (unlikely) there would have to have been over 2500 bikes to take that long to go by. If we assume that they were at least doing the speed limit, (say 25 mph) and riding two or three abreast (much more likely), then the number of bikers that would take that long to pass is bloody preposterous.

As has been said by others above, this was most likely a well organized charity event, and was certainly something that local LE was made aware of. My guess is that the route was pre-planned, and the traffic interruption was given the thumbs up in advance by city officials. I'd also bet a year of paychecks that it didn't take anywhere near as long as IG is making out.
