Mossberg 464 30-30
« on: August 18, 2008, 05:42:07 AM »
Visited a Gander Mountain in Columbus, OH on sat. and handled one of the new 464's. I liked the balance and feel of it and the tang safety. Price was fair (IMO) $399. I thought MSRP was around $473. In all, if I wanted / needed a replacement for my Marlin 336 would seriously consider the 464. Wondering if anyone has purchased the 30-30? Mossberg's web site has a poll on which caliber you would like to be next on the list to make.

i was undecided on the tang safety , i know lawyers rule the world , but that sort of takes away  from the gun to me , i also liked the feel of the rifle, is a bit different then a 94 or 336 for sure, id like a 357  but i bet a 45lc will be next if it isnt a rifle cal?

Only shot my new Mossberg 464 twice at 25 yards, thunderstorms ruined my day. The 2 holes were touching. Action is stiff , will  smooth out I'm sure with use. Like the looks and handling really well, will have to install a red dot , my old 67 year old eyes just don't work that well with open sights, might try  the Ghost ring first................very impressed with the rifle so far. Shooting more tomorrow, I hope!

I've been shootin a Model 94 bought new in 1958. About 30 years ago, I put a Lyman aperture sight on it. Problem solved. Front sight is a post with a white stripe. My Model 92 is sight equipped the same. They are the only two deer size rifles I own now. Sold the others. Experimented for almost 50 years and am now back where I started, and happier. The old ones still work.

I handled a 464 this weekend at the gunshow the mag tube when looking down the barrel was off the left close to a half inch I pushed on it and it was'nt loose enough to move back over I'm sure that would be a easy fix but that was the first time I'd seem a lever with the tube so crooked.Other than that it seemed ok.
