McWoodDuck raises a great point.  I've always found the only place I notice recoil is when I'm target shooting at the range.  You know it is coming, and you are sitting there waiting for it.  I'm fairly recoil insensitive, but my 480 handloads give a pretty good whack when you shoot them on the bench, as do Brenneke mag slugs in my Ithaca model 37.  However, I've shot all of these guns numerous times in the woods hunting and can't ever remember even noticing the recoil.  Once the adrenelin is pumping and the excitement is in the air, small annoyances like recoil fade into background noise.

If you like the mountain gun, stay with it.  It is light weight and carrys a potent punch.  Shoot it on the range with lighter loads, and shoot a minimum of heavy loads with shooting gloves on.  Trust me, when you are faced with a situation, you will be glad you have it, and will never notice the recoil!
Success is a journey, not a destination...  Might as well enjoy the ride!!

Just remember, when seconds count, the police are only minutes away.  You can rely on 911 or on 1911. The choice is yours.
