THE 44 mag. is always a good choice , as are several other BIG bore revolvers .
I have had several and liked most of them , well as i got older I began to shead weight that i carried , no more than i needed , ie: didn't need 25 extra rounds , 3 knives , rope , binocs , 3 ways to start a fire , extra first aid , etc. etc . my hand gun became a mod. 38 body guard air weight in my front pocket . WE DID NOT HAVE BEAR OR BIG CATS THEN ! Well over the last 5 or so years we got bear , we got big cats and drug growers as an extra . SOOOO
i wanted a larger hand gun , went with a S&W mt. gun , but it is heavy and bulky , I know it is better in both respects over the guns it replaces BUT still big .
Well after looking for some time i got a Glock 10 mm , then a Colt DELTA ELITE . They carry easy , shoot nice and have good power . NO they don't equal a 44 mag or even a 41 mag but they are close to the 41 in SOME loadings , and thecarry alot of ammo in the Glock for sure .
If you are like me and don't like extra weight then check out the glock in 10 mm . I use a shoulder rig alot and it stays out the way and protected ( DRY ). I have started taking it fishing here lately .
