NO ! to Tom Ridge as V-P
« on: August 18, 2008, 12:12:46 PM »
As a life long resident of Pennsylvania, I can honestly say if McCain picks former Pa Gov. Tom Ridge (the quitter) as his running mate in the hopes of picking up Pennsylvania votes in an effort to swing Pennsylvania into the Red, in my case it will have quite the opposite effect.

Tom Ridge (the quitter) is a Republican in party affiliation only.  Tom Ridge is, in my opinion, nothing but another Clinton with a Hearing Aid.  A Wolf in Sheeps clothing.

Hopefully, he won't have a chance to do to the rest of the Country that he has done for (or to)  Pennsylvania.   Tom Ridge was in way over his head as the first Secretary of Homeland Security, and Tom Ridge quit that position.

I can in no way picture Tom Ridge (the quitter) as a "Heartbeat away from the Presidency".

If McCain wants to pick someone with Tom Ridge's qualifications, he could offer the second slot to a known Liberal instead of Tom Ridge.

At least that way, you'll know what you're getting.

McCain's a liberal, why are you surprised he'd pick another liberal?

I agree. Ridge is a zero. McCain needs to pick a conservative.

I don't think it matters who he picks.  Conservatives would rather have Obama.

"Conservatives would rather have Obama."  Not this conservative.  I wouldn't want Osama (Obama) if he were the best Dumbycrat to ever run for President--which he is not.  He might well be the worst, but I don't really know how you can tell.

I have to laugh when Dumbycrats talk about McGore being nothing more than a third term for Dubya.  If that were true, I'd take it in a NY minute.

I can't believe there is anyone on this forum who would vote for Osama, but it looks like there are a few.  I guess they don't care anything about the Second Amendment, or anything else.

McCain is left of center as a conservative, and really needs to pick a hard right conservative as a V.P. Obama is so far left, anybody he picks will be more conservative than he is.  gypsyman

Any "conservative" that won't support McCain, wants Obama to be President.  That's just the way it is.

Want and Support are two entirely differant things when it comes to politics. I will support McCain, but I don't want him. I want a real true conservative. McCain is not a conservative. Barr is the only conservative running as an independent but unfortunately he doesent have a snow balls chance in hell of winning.

"but unfortunately he doesent have a snow balls chance in hell of winning."

Nor does any conservative.  You have to be a moderate to get enough votes to win.

I doubt that anyone here knows who McCain will pick for V-P, but I can tell you this...

Tom Ridge will cause you problems if given the chance.  I think that deep down inside Tom Ridge is against the 2nd Amendment as far as gun ownership goes.  He almost admitted it.

He is, in my opinion, responsible for all of the trouble we have in Pa when it comes to the Pa Game Commission and the DCNR.  It was on his watch that all of the problems started.

While he does have an admirable Military and Public Service record, Tom Ridge is not a true Conservative.  I don't even consider him a Moderate.   I also don't consider him to be Presidential material... So why would I even vote for him as VP?

I won't.

Keep in mind one thing.  Tom Ridge is happiest when he has everyone Pizzed Off.

When no one is happy, that is when Tom Ridge is happy.

Ronald Regan ran as a strict conservative and on the heels of a miserable failed Liberal Communist in Carter, his message played well. Regan was no moderate.

"Ronald Regan ran as a strict conservative"

I would consider Regan a moderate.  He had common sense, and did what was best for the country.

I'm a conservative and no way on God's green earth will I vote for Obama. McCain is not exactly what I would call a great choice but he is the only choice as far as I'm concerned. Anyone who votes third party is only voting for Obama by default and I'm not stupid enough to fall for that one. Remember how we got Bill Clinton because of Perot. Personally I consider Obama ten times as bad as Clinton was.

You realize that this comment implies that a strict conservative has no or lack common sense. The two are mutually exclusive. Common sense has no political application. Common sense is a conclusion that someone comes to about a specific idea or goal, political or other.

Yes, I intended it to be read that way.  A strict conservative (or liberal)cannot allow common sense to conflict with their doctrine.  A person with common sense realizes that there are times when liberty, freedom, & or the common good/welfare of the citizens maybe more important than doctrine.

While I am a conservative, I'm not so selfish as to believe that what is good for me (or my personal preference)is good for everyone.

I consider myself a strict conservative but believe I can exercise common sense. To me, the best acid test for common sense in our society is, does the idea pass the constitution and the Bill of Rights test.

As bad as the Presidential thing might turn out, it is the flavor of Congress that really makes all the difference.  And on that score, unless there is a massive change, we're screwed.  Even if we luck out and get McGore for President, there is the awful chance that the Dumbycrats might get a veto proof majority.

The only hope we might have of keeping any semblance of the country we know, would be if more and more of the less commie leaning Dumbycrats start to come to their senses.  My congressman is a Dumbycrat (I didn't vote for him) and when he was first elected, he was as liberal as they come--being an ex college professor from an extremely liberal school--but lately he has made some one eighties that have the libs calling for his head.  He has a super lib woman trying to take him out in the primary.  I almost considered voting for him to keep her out, but as bad as things might get, I wouldn't vote for a jackass if it was the end of the world.  Never have--never will.

Hopefully McCain will pick someone who is the opposite of McCain.

If he wants to win that's the way to go. If he picks a clone like himself or a pro abortion candidate like Ridge, he will lose!

Mc'Cain made it crystal clear that he would not have any pro-choice person in his adminstration.  This eliminates Ridge & Liberman.  If he goes back on his word in this case, he can't be trusted about anything else and he will have lost my vote.
