Anyone recommend loads for the CZ 550 Varmint in 308?
« on: August 19, 2008, 09:53:37 AM »
Just took my brand new 550 Varmint Laminated out to the range, very happy with a 1/2 inch group at 100 yards using Georgia Arms FMJ 150 gr but I know I can get better w/ hand loads.  I don't have a ton of hand loading experience and would be very happy to benefit from the wisdom of those who have gone before me  ;D

I would be willing to ring it out for you. No charge, really.
Just ship it to me and I should have it back to you in a year or two.

 ;D ;D ;D

Really though sounds like a shooter.

Partsman, that is one of the most generous offers I've every seen!!!

Lemme think about it... ::)

Thanks for the warm welcome...I did a ton of research before I decided on this rifle, and this forum had much to do w/ my decision.

My .308 Varminter loves 46.8 grns. of Win. 748 with a 168 grn. BTHP.  Play with the seating depth to find the "sweet spot".

1/2" groups are very good indeed!

If you get the opportunity, try some Varget with 168g. Sierra HPBTs. 308s seem to love it.

I use Lapua brass, CCI Large Rifle Primers, 44g Varget, and the 168g. Sierra HPBTs mentioned above. I seat the bullets about .007 - .010 off the lands and the results are fantastic (at least for me anyway). My best 5 shot group at 100 yards so far has been .233, and I'm certainly not the best shooter out there. Note: this combination is for my Savage 10FCP, but I'd bet it would work in a CZ just as well, except I'd start at 41g (see the Lyman 48th edition) and work your way up. Best of luck finding that perfect load for your CZ. I have the CZ 550 American in 6.5 X 55 and it shoots great. Love those CZs.
