I have been kicking around the idea of another barrel "project", this one chambered in the recently re-introduced 350 Rem mag :grin: . Something in the short carbine / long pistol length. Has anyone out there done this? If so, did factory loads work ok? How about hand loads that worked well? Any imput / opinions welcome.

I have fired the 350 in full length rifle barrels. The shorter barrel should be quite a handful, however, if you are used to shooting heavy calibers it should not be prohibitive. The 350 is accurate with factory loads or handloads using published data and doesn't seem to be finicky about powder and bullet combinations. You could load down for less recoil or use full power loads as the need requires. Expect a bit of powder smugging on the case neck.

Never had a 350 in a Encore, but have had a 338 Win. Mag. It was braked and was not hard on the shooter. If it is what you want, get it. Personally, if I had a choice I would go with a non-belted case if possible.

Hey Big Gun,

I have a 350 Rem Encore in pistol configuration. Mine is a Fox Ridge barrel that I had throated long to seat bullets a little farther out. It is ported with TC's rubber grips. It is a handful but not excessive. I would highly recommend the chambering for anyone looking to tackle elk, bears, moose, Africa.

I've done a lot of testing in it and found mine likes IMR 4320 with Nosler 225 Bal Tips. It gets a chronoed 2450 fps and right at 1" at 100 yards with this load. I've had loads go over 2500 fps but not as accurate. My load produces ~ 3000 ft/lbs of energy putting it in the 30-06 rifle class - alot of elk and moose have been killed with the '06.

There are better up close hammers and their may be better long range hammers but I think the 350 comes close to being ideal in both categories. If you can shoot full power 44 mag loads in a revolver, you can shoot the 350 in a braked Encore. Hope this helps.

Take a look at this I'm thinking a 16.5" 444Marlin is in order.I have a Contender Super-14 in the 444 with a 240gr XTP and 47.2grs of H-4198 it has a velocity of 2156fps thats about 2,486 foot pounds of energy and has a KO of 31.8 out of the 14" tube

Thanks for the info guys, this project will stay on the list of TC barrel projects, although it will probably be several months before it becomes a reality as it is behind the 375 H&H, the 405 Win, and the 260 Rem projects.

Whitetail, what barrel lenght do you have? :?:

PJ - I already have a 45-70 Contender, and a 450 Marlin Encore - the 444 Marlin doesn't appear to offer anything that I don't already have at the moment.
