DIY Custom Bow Grip for Outback
« on: August 20, 2008, 03:38:09 AM »
I am trying to thin my Outback grip on a sander and am curious...for anyone with a replacement grip from Shrewd, Lousch or similar on a Matthews bow..how wide is the grip?  Are both sides of the one piece grip the same thickness?  In other words, if the grip is removed do the thin sides look equal or is one side thicker than the other?

I took this grip down some last year and am ready to sand more off as I have issues with hand placement and bow torque sometimes that I want to try and address.
Be honest with yourself.  Can you guarantee you would hit a paper plate at 250 yards...100 yards...50 yards?  Then you have no business replacing the plate with a live animal.

I have never had a problem with my Mathews grip size. I shoot with an open hand which is to say my thumb and index are spread and the grip just rests in the web between them. So whether the grip is 1" wide or 2" wide has basically zero effect for me. Never had any torque problems shooting this way. I was taught this way since day one. Wrapping your fingers around the grip will induce torque every time IMHO.
