i am planning on putting a red dot on my mark II(bsquare mount).Is it really necessary to get a high dollar red dot scope when theres little to no recoil on the 5.5 in bull barrell.just thought about getting a BSA just to shoot with...whats everyones opinion...thanks

I have some Pro Points I paid quite a bit for that have never failed. And I have a couple of $30 Tascos that have never failed either. And they have sat on 10" 44 mag Contenders at times. Personally I'm not too sold on the BSA stuff. Midway USA still has some really inexpensive Tasco's on their web site. KN

I have a 22/45 5.5" bull with a B-square mount and a "Target Sports" 30 MM red dot. I went to a gun show before I bought it, and I looked at BSAa, Redfields, tascos, bushnells, and the leoupold "gilmore" model.
After seeing them side by side, the only one I could tell a difference with was the Leoupold, but for the price, I would hope It would be better.
I have shot my 22/45 in the rain, cold, and heat, and its sight has never fogged up on me.
I couldn't justify spending more money when I couldn't tell a difference between the brands.

I just mounted and zeroed the Gilmore yesterday. I like the gilmore as it has a 2 MOA dot, I have used numerous others all with 4 MOA dots and found them to be too coarse for precision shooting out past 50 yds with the MKII. Just something to consider.

Definitley a good point. I didnt mean to imply that my sight was better than anyone elses, Just that for the price I payed, It serves my purposes just as well as the more expensive brands would have.

Dot size and shape are the big factors. If your plinking soda cans at 25'. Get a cheap one. These are mostly in the 4-6 MOA dot size range. However, if you wnat to shoot 12 ga hulls, walnuts, ( or bullseye targets) at 50' , some of the bigger dots will obscure all /most of the target. Also, the cheaper sights often have a irregular shaped dot that is also less precise. I personally won't go anything bigger than a 3moa dot for finer work and only use a 6 MOA for aquiring big targets fast such as in plate shoots.

The gilmore suggested above is EXCELLENT but about $150. ( I have one on my Gallery gun.) The 4 rectical Bushnell goes down to 3 MOA and has a deciently round dot for about $80. I've owned one of the BSA $30 units and it was fine for roughshooting but it had it's limitations.

I have used all of the red dots listed.T Aimpoint 7000 c is by far the cream of the crop.It has a 10,000 hour battery,come with excellent rings.I put it on a Ruger GC slab.I don,t think you can go wrong.The gov't 16's have them.You can get on a target so fast it will scare you,and when zeroed, it hit where the red dot is. I'm sold on it. Just my opinion and they vary.

I have a Millet SP-1 on my Ruger Mark II Slab Side.

I use the 1 inch SP-1 because it allowed me to use the Ruger rings. Never had a problem. This sight was $75.00 at Midsouth Shooters Supply.

MOA is 3. Have same sight on Ruger SRH in 44 Mag.

Have a Model 41 Smith topped with Bushnell Holosight. I purchased the 1 MOA Dt and this set up is sweet! I think the Holosight is the best on the market.
