Ruger no. one question
« on: August 21, 2008, 03:22:46 AM »
Maybe some one can give me the answer to this one.
In going to different gun shops as well as pawn shops and gun shows I come across cal. not listed on Rugers web site. I have seen a number of 22 hornets new in the box as well as yesterday I came across a 220 swift new in the box. So was wondering if these were old stock and sold by Ruger on a close out?

Ruger does a lot of limited runs of special calibers for their distributors from time to time.  Stuff like the .35 Whelen, 6.5x55, and 7.62x39 come to mind for ones recently (as in the last few years).  I haven't checked the caliber availability on the website lately, but they used to chamber the Hornet and the .220 Swift as regular chamberings for many years in the #1B.  Perhaps they dropped them, as they can't be the most popular of rounds in the #1.

I was looking at what was being offered at this time when I was on the web site and I had looked at a 22 Hornet at Cobelas in fort worth texas. I have been to a lot of gun shows looking for a number one to buy but they were always in a large cal 7mm mag, 300 winmag or weatherby or 25-06 finally found a nice one in 22-250. At the last gun show in Tulsa last weekend there was a fellow who had around 12 some new some nice but used from 223 all the way up to 300mag but it was a real supprise to me a couple days later when I saw the 220 swift in the pawn shop that was new but could not find it in their latest production list, any way thanks for the info on what has been made at one time or another.
