Suppressed firearm

I am considering a class 3 firearm but want to know if what I am looking for is actually feasible. I am interested in a single shot rifle in .44 mag for hunting. I thought a NEF or TC with about a 12" - 14" barrel and suppressor bringing barrel length to a total of 20". I would load my own probably to the tune of 255 grain - 300 grain hard cast bullets to velocity of about 1050.

If so, who would I have custom such a rifle?

Looks to me like all you need is someone to thread the barrel, complete the paperwork and buy the suppressor. Your load would be subsonic, so the set up should be reasonably effective. I would guess any real gunsmith could thread the barrel. Let us know how it turns out.

Can you just buy a supressor or are they all pretty much custom made? 44 is not a real common caliber in the LE and military world. You might want to check your State Hunting regs. carefully before you get too far down the road.

Not many states in the US (perhaps NONE) allow the use of suppressed firearms for hunting use. Check VERY carefully in advance of wasting your money if this is your goal to see if your state allows it.

Unknown to many a GBO Sponsor SSK Industries is deeply involved in suppressed firearms production. I'd give JD a call if I had an interest in such a project.

Excellent point. I will check into legality of hunting with a suppressed rifle. I went to the link for SSK and saw their work...looks pretty nice.

how  did  you  search  go  with how legal  it  is??

Be very picky about the machinest if they index off the outside barrel instead of the bore you can get strikes that will ruin the suppressor and the bbl will be useless. Explain in great detail what you are doing and make real sure they understand how to do it.

I found out that it is illegal to hunt in FL with a suppressed firearm. I axed my plans although it would be nice to shoot at the range with one. That is what I was considering too, an HR in .44 or possibly a TC.

this  guy  said  he  will  sleeve  the  entire barrel  so   it  will just  look  like a bull barrel

he  builds  removable  cans  that  can  go  on  other guns

but  i  wanted  it to just look  like a bull barrel  and  it  will  be more reliable  that  way

i  had  a  Rossi  threaded  for my  cobray can  and  alignment  is  poor and balance  is  poor

how ever  i  really  like  the  gun now  with  its 17 inch barrel and  red dot sight
