The SBH Bisley I wish Ruger would make
« on: August 23, 2008, 05:15:58 AM »
I would love to see Ruger make a SBH Bisley with a barrel length offering of 4 5/8ths, 5.5", 7.5 and 10.5" in .480 Ruger cartridge.... I know they have discontinued the SRH in the .480 Ruger but think they may have sold more in the SBH line up.

What do you think on this?

that definitely interests me, maybe not just the Bisley, but in the SBH as well, I like the big bore pistols, but dontl like that it is either spend some dough on a Freedom Arms, or go Double Action, which I don't care for!
Just back form Iraq, glad to be back in Colorado!!!!

With the .480 having been overshadowed by the .460 and .500 it was destined a demise.  I'd say they only avenue for a Bisley in that chambering is having it built from an existing BH or SBH.
I'd buy one but only 'cause it would be a Bisley.

I believe with so many people that have always wanted a .375 Linebaugh, a 5 shot Bisley in .454 casull would be just the think. I think they would have sold a truckload of them, due to the cost of a Linebaugh. Even if they would have brought out a 5 shot in .480 Ruger. I have always wanted a 5" 454 or 480 five shot, but like many others can't afford a custom job. Yeah, I know could alway have bought a FA, but just wanted a Ruger.

I've said it before and will say it again Ruger is NEVER EVER in anyone's life time gonna make a five shot single action in any chambering so don't look for your hoped for .480. It ain't gonna happen.

Why what? Why is the .375 Linebaugh a new round or why will Ruger not make one? If the latter as I suspect they cannot bring themselves to admit their super strong gun is not strong or large enough to be a six shot gun therefore will never make it as a five shot.

As far as a production model, you're most likely correct.  However, I do know and have seen a factory produced 5 shot Ruger single action.  It was chambered in .50 AE I belive it was.  The .50 cal I know is correct.  Originally intended to have it's release coincide witht the companies 50th annivesary a few years back.

As for a Bisley or any variation of the lg framed Ruger SA in a new BIG chambering...I doubt it'll go especially in the .480 Ruger chambering.  That cartridge simply came at the wrong time as it quickly got overshadowed by the .500 and .460 S&W cartridges.  With everyone wanting the super magnums (guess the game are getting tougher  ::)) They simply passed the milder .480 over.  I'd go for one in a Bisley configuration and who knows, maybe that'll be a possable project later on to look inoto. I jsut know it's not gonna come from the factory.

Hi GB....shoulda been more clear.  Why won't ruger build a bigger cartridge into a SBH????   I'd like a 454casull or a 475lindbough.

Ego Doug, ego pure and simple. They will not CANNOT admit their big guns are not big and strong enough to be a six shot so will not make one as a five shot.

I don't think it's the ego thing as much as it is them covering thier assets from those that think, "hey it's a Ruger, we can load this to the max."  Picture it, Ruger makes a .454 or .475 and some idiot super charges their handloads and blows it up.  In today's "not my fault" society, the idiot sues Ruger.  That's how the transfer bar came about - an idiot not following the common sence directions.
The SRH's chambered in .454 were 6 shots but had a slightly larger cylinder and used a differnt alloy.  Just a guess that the tooling and such for use in the SA's would be marginal but for the market, perhaps not worth the investment.
This of course is based on opinions from a pro-Ruger individual not a -anti-Ruger individual. ;)

Yeah...I get it.  Too bad.  I have a SBH converted by MagNaPort to the predator package.  It's nice, but, well......boring......not the gun's fault...just a great solution to a non-existant problem for me.

BTW...I got a nice note from the CEO of Ruger thanking me for some suggestions I made on the ruger site and even have my pic on their site.  Wow.....
