Got another one!!
« on: August 24, 2008, 11:35:50 AM »
I got my second Rossi today.

7.62x39.
I like my .223 bull Rossi so much that I had to get it a brother.
I don't like the open sights on so I will scope it.
How do these things shoot with good factory ammo?? (not mil-surp)
Does anyone have ammo. recommendations??

Thanks for any input

Will do!!

As soon as I get it scoped I am going to try a few different brands of ammo. and see how she shoots.

Let us know how it shoots and the ammo,  I shot mine again with Wolf, Sellior/Belloit and Eagle seems like the groups are getting larger!
I'm wondering if its the ammo or that the barrel needs to be broken in... Im getting discouraged at the amount of experimenting and tinkering these breakopen designs take to get them to shoot reasonable groups

Shot some Barnaul 123 gr. hollow points today.
I put 40 rounds through it without any misfires. ;D
I still haven't scoped it yet but with the crappy open sights I was hitting milk jugs at 100 yds.

So far all is good.
I'm not sure yet which scope to put on it but I'm thinking of a 4x Weaver.

Another good thing about this one is no recoil!!
You could shoot this thing all day long and not get sore.
I like that!!

I'm really likin' it so far.
I'll give a range report when I scope it. (hopefully soon)

I finally got a scope on my gun and if it ever stops raining I will sight it in. ::)

I would say that it kicks about the same as a .410 (very light recoil)
It has a pretty decent recoil pad on it too.

So far, so good!!

I hate to say it, but I like my rossi .243 better than my NEF .308.  They aren't quite as pretty as the NEF's stock wise, but I like the way the swivel takes the bbl down and I like the safety.  Mine shoots less than 1" @ 100 yards.

SSS, what ammo are you shooting in your .243?  I can get 1/2" on the first two shots with Federal 100gr cheap stuff, but the 3rd shot always opens it up to like 4".  Oh, and it doesn't shoot worth a crap with a clean barrel.  needs like 10 shots through it to tighten it up.  Never had this happen with any other rifle.

Mine likes the Winchester CXP 95grain silvertips... Mine groups 2 about 1/2" then the third opens up from 3/4 - 1"

i don't want to come across wrong but maybe you are flinching on the 3rd shot?

Not coming off wrong at all.  I'm almost positive I'm not flinching. I'm the first to admit or find my own faults and flinching on this rifle isn't one of them. (shooting off sand filled Caldwell front rest/rear stock rest.)  I'm thinking it's heating up enough to move the barrel, but I'm no expert.  It's a youth model, with a pencil barrel.   Oh, and I shot it again on Monday.  It's hitting 1" apart for the first two, not 1/2", with Federal blue box and about 1.5" with Fusion.

Sorry to drag up an old post, but it consitantly throws the 3rd shot.  My .243 has virtually no recoil what-so-ever and is a dream to shoot.

The great orator try letting the barrel cool between shots, barrels probly pretty warm by the 3rd shot.

I found one of these 7.62's used for $119 today and I'm thinking about buying it. What is the lure of Rossi single shot rifles. They look like walking sticks with sights.

sounds like an ammo problem or the bbl is touching something after it warns from the first two shots. Yes i have a couple of guns that need a few rounds thru them before the shoot decent
the nation that forgets it defenders will itself be forgotten

Flash I think the allure is the fact that for the price they are pretty good shooters, also alot of people like the fact that they have a actual saftey on them. Oh and also the fact that the hammer profile is lower than an H&R so you can mount scopes closer to the bore. I have a SS 357mag rifle that with the leverevolution ammo it shoots 1.5" at 100 yds. It's short light and an all round great brush gun. Took a spikehorn white tail in the northern zone of N.Y a few years ago at 134 paces and I'm 6'4" It double lunged him and blew out the driverside shoulder and he dropped were I shot him. 7.62X39 is not my favorite load but for that price if it shoots decent it would make a great brush gun also
