.224 bullet mold ?
« on: August 24, 2008, 01:25:21 PM »
I looking for mold ideas for a 40 to 45 grain cast bullet than can be used for 22 Rem Jet , 224GNR and 223 Rem , all have a .224 dia. and I just need a good low speed plunking load that could also be used for small game if needed .

Do any of you have any experience with this kind of bullet ? and what style bullet would you recommend ?

Yes I have experiance with them.  I can make about anything you want.  A spitzer will be most accurate if for long range use, while a flatnose will be best for game, and every bit as accurate as a spitzer at ranges to at least 100 yards.  Please hit my website, look over the listed offerings, then email me with any questions.  I can and do make many bullets which aren't listed in the catalog.       LBTMoulds.com

Do you think that I will need a gas check with any of these bullets if I keep the speeds under 1800 FPS ?

1800 fps is pushing the limit for plain base, but that speed is attainable with accuracy if the bore is real smooth and temperatures aren't too high.  Say a max of 70 deg F or so and cooler, which catches hunting weather in most of the US.  1400 to 1500 fps would be a more realistic speed for top accuracy, and will deliver lots of punch for small game when using a flatnosed bullet.  I will always give the option of one cavity GC, one PB, or any combination if a 4 cavity, for $10 extra.  This option will allow hot loads with the gc and low cost light loads with the PB in one mold.
