Have to shoot two.....
« on: August 24, 2008, 08:01:28 PM »
Hi

Booked my last hunt for the year, 5 - 7 Sept. Just to shoot something else
as just paper targets I shot my wet phone books for penetration testing.
 :o a 140 Nosler PT (2550fps) out penetrated my Lapua 155gr (2460fps) Mega and
a 156gr Sako factory load. (2600fps according to them)

They all stayed together and ave. weight was 75%. Now I will have to shoot two animals
to see how they perform in the field! ;D
Maybe a impala or blesbuck for the NP and a warthog for the Lapua!
(The camera is already packed for the trip.)

Cheers
Sweet

Just a question.  Do you live where there is not a game season - as in a big city?  Not sure why your ideal hunt would be a canned hunt on a game ranch.

Not a problem with game ranches, if that is what you want.  Just a question why in August you would state that yourr hunt of preference is a canned hunt - with the entire hunting season ahead of us.

Charles who mentioned game ranches? Canned Hunts???????????

Not of of us on these forums reside and hunt in the US. Sweet 6.5 is from South Africa and hunts in Africa it's their winter right now  ;)

Myself am in the UK and deer hunting goes on all year round, just the sex and species change some  ;D we have six huntable Deer species here and the rules are different to those in the US. We non Americans find it strange to have hunting seasons fro everything  ??? Rabbit here we have no season and mo limits yet there are millions of them about. Pigeons are agricultural pesst btut he EU is sticking their nose in and interferring wehere they should not  >:(

Hallo Charles  ??? Having a bad day?

"Just a question.  Do you live where there is not a game season - as in a big city? "
I am not sure if you would classified Johannesburg as big ?

"Not sure why your ideal hunt would be a canned hunt on a game ranch."
I am lazy - much easier on a game ranch ;)

"Not a problem with game ranches, if that is what you want.  Just a question why in August you would state that yourr hunt of preference is a canned hunt - with the entire hunting season ahead of us."
August is actually the end of our season - but seeing that I have to work this weekend and it is just a canned hunt I thought what the hell I might push it to next weekend. :o

Jokes aside:
Something about South Africa.
Size
South Africa occupies 4% of the continent's total landmass, covering an area of 1 221 040 square kilometres. The country is five times larger than Great Britain and three times the size of Texas. As you can see we are just this little part of Africa, there are lots of places in Africa where you can hunt. These areas are devided into concessions and you pay in $ to the safari operaters.
I can't afford this at R8.00 to $1.

According to me - only been here 40 years - there is no public land in SA where I can go and hunt. Each and every sq inch belongs to somebody and you are going to pay to hunt there. ( I will be really upset if I find out now there is a place where I can hunt for free)

I only hunt on game farms (one day, maybe with my pension money, I will go and hunt a moose in Canada?).   These farms ave. 10 000 acers to 20 000 acers. I think JJ Jack has one even bigger than this, and with a couple of consessions on other farms and in I think Botswana. You can spend a week on some of these without seeing the fences - some of the animals spend a life time on these without seeing the fences!

I don't shoot at water holes and I don't shoot over a food pod. I don't wait for the game to come to me - I hunt them.
I will, with the help of a tracker, walk and stalk the game I want to hunt.
I spend about 7 - 8 hours per day walking in the bush. 3.5 to 4 in the morning just after sun rise and the 3.5 before sun set.
Believe me - nobody told the game I hunted so far they are canned and they should make it easy. (nor the mamba that changed my mind on where we want to go - or the agressive mother warthog looking after her little ones. )
The finale stalk to the bluewilde beest in May took me more than a hour. That was after a 3 hour walk. Adrenalin rushing, thirsty, full of dust and thorns - that according to me was a hunt!

So Charles, that is my story - I am really sorry it does not live up to your standards.

Cheers
Sweet

PS: Not really - I actually don't care.

Surely the world only stretches from Maine to California? Something about sea to shining sea?

Dammit man, I may have to take one of those new fangles aeroplanes, or airplanes and get to see something else?

Hey guys, life is an adventure, lets all live in harmony and realise that there is life beyond all of our horizons.

The internet truly knows no boundaries. We have folks from every US state on here but we also have members in over 60 different countries. Ya really shouldn't just read a post and assume the poster is in the US. Ya should ask questions and find out unless they specifically mention the US. Lotsa folks on here are from all parts of the world.
