That http://www.varmital.com really is a good site.

I thought that I was quite the serious Pred/Varm hunter but I cant hold a candle to Al as he goes as far as to hand out buisness cards advertising free pred-varm contro to the local ranchers/farmers. ;D ;D
He also offers much more on the site ranging from free MP3 downloads to actual hands on hunting tips & techniques.

I've lost my share of turkeys and even two baby goats to the migration of coyotes into SC.  They always run when seen or spotted at night with a light.  They've never shown aggression to me and I doubt very seriously they have anywhere else.  A rabid one might turn and fight but they would be few and far between.  The biggest problem with coyotes is the damage they do on livestock and poultry.  They will wipe you out in a matter of days.

I've had one so brave as to chew through a screen door on one of my turkey houses.  It killed 9 turkeys and only ate one of them. I don't mind them taking one or two but to kill them needlessly is why I hate the coyote.  They were too large to get through the hole in the door.   The only thing that has worked for me is traps.  The problem with trapping is you catch all kinds of stuff, mostly animals you never wanted to catch to start with.  I've caught racoons, bobcats, foxes, opossums, and even someone's cat.  The bad thing about traps is you almost always have to kill the animal to get it out of the trap.  They will tear you to pieces if you try to release them..  I did manage to let the house cat go though.

I've had several buddies say they could take care of them for me, but none of them have been very successful.  The problem is they know you're there long before you see them.  If you're hunting with a bow, it's going to be near impossible.  You need a centerfire that will provide range. My buddies have killed a few but never enough to matter.  The black ones just give me the creeps. I hate them.

back in the day when i was trapping yotes and everybody else here in sw mo was too. yu never seen the miserable mangy sick begging to be killed yotes like yu do now. when the population was kept down all the yotes we saw were very healthy and happy and so were all the other furbearers.for the last few years since fur price been low and all the old timers that hunted with dogs and trapped have died out the change is unbelievable. 9 out of 10 yotes i see are pathetic hairless or semi hairless disgusting wretches.the mangy ones die i assume a horrible death in the winter from hypothermia.the last few Ive shot were so diseased looking i didn't even touch them with my boot. i just wish the anti's could see them.we have also had a few calves taken by what we can only assume were yotes in the last few years. something we never had prob with before.and no they were not taken by dogs as we keep them pretty well exterminated on a first come first serve basis.anybody else notice anything like this or i it just my area?

The black ones (going back some years) used to be worth $50 but that ended when the fur buyers stopped taking them due to hair falling out of a properly tanned hide...a trait caused by interbreeding with domestic dogs or so they claim.

http://www.varmintal.com/attac.htm    it say Coyote Attacks on Children and there is 35 reported attacks on there and a few are on adults. to me if i see one i going to try and kill. I used to be that way on raccoons but i stopped cause they learned to avoid me in my hunting spot. Never think a animals will not attack you ( i had a pet rabbit attack me when it was was in heat and i have bite marks from it.)

That happens to me sometimes but not as often as it use to.  When I was 25, I got bit all the time.  Now, I couldn't get a bite in a rabbit factory.  Them dang rabbits jsut run away from me...I guess I'm just too ugly.............

30-30man, A little (cheating) may be in order for yourself but maybe not nessesarily so as you are protecting your live stock.
I know of a couple guy's that use the motion sensor lights complete with red bulbs and some bait such as road kill deer or dead hogs.
The light is adequate enough to be able to center the Coyotes vitals with scoped rifles.

The one guy has an outbuilding close enough to run a cord out there to the sensor light on a make-shift pole while the Other uses a common automotive AC-DC adaptor and a battery to make for a more portable unit.
Both setups are realitively close to their houses (100 to 110yds). Tedious! you might be thinking but the one guy shoots from an upstairs bedroom window while the other uses an out building. They do use creature comforts
Such as TV's or radios and always have that light in view should it be tripped. Those Coyotes will seem to want to get out early for their hunts & feeding (especially when it is cold) and these two guys will get a lot of shot opportunitys in before 10:30pm.
You would think that the yotes would wise up to this setup but they really dont as the one guy has had his setup in the same location for at least four years now. Both of the guys do well on this Predatation control over the season.
These are mainly cold weather tactics as the Coyotes will do well enough in the warmer months on mice and such for thier regular diet...Sometimes they will run into the older breeding pair that will teach their pups these farm yard raiding tactics and then the trouble really begins and the guys will have to setup nightly.

it was a male and there was a doe and heat and i got to close to were she was and i got a bite for it. any animal can attack for all kinds of reasons, i had a female pet rat bite at me when i try to pick up one of her babys.

also have you ever tryed haveing a live dog stand a few yards from you to draw them in? i hear of people doing this or something like it.

In my youth, I had a pet male rabbit that lunged at me and bit my arm, I changed his name to SUPPER!

You can use live dog decoys for hunting coyotes, just make sure you use one that will always comes back to you without hesitation when called.  Also, don't use one too small or too big, too small cant get away in time, too big and coyotes will be intimidated.
