Would like some options!
« on: August 25, 2008, 02:54:52 PM »
Here 2 weeks ago I traded for a brand new Tristar IAB Sharps. I have went to IAB web site and read how there were the first company in Italy to make a reproduction Sharps, they also state that they hand build each rifle! They have broach rifling just like Pietsoule (sorry about the bad spelling) Shilo Sharps have Button rifling! i have done quite a bit of research and the broach rifling is the best. My rifles metal to wood fit is awesome, but if you go to very many Sharps web sites, they call the IAB (It allways breaks) so to all you IAB Sharps owners, i would like to know how you like yours, and have you had problems?
the only thing that I could think of, would be that IAB was useing poor quialty steel?

Have at it!

Only had one long ago and it might not be represetative of today's guns. It was without a doubt the sorriest POS I've ever owned. The wood felt like a slab of 2x4 in my hands and had no decent lines resembling a rifle at all. It was crudely put together and using the supplied iron sights it missed the target by over 12" at 25 yards even using all the sight adjustment available in it.

I'd not take another if offered to me for free after that experience. As I said it was long ago and might not be representative of the current production.

Graybeard thanks for your Honest Option, that is what I was asking! My gun being a 2008 model doesn't fit your guns decription, but like you said it was a while back when you owned it!
I am 52 years old, and have had guns since I was 6 years old, but I am a born and raised farm boy! Since I have never had any other Sharps in my hand, I cannot compair how it feels to another Brand! My rifle has as good metal to wood fit you could have! And I am great full that you were honest to me. i was in hopes that others would comment, and I know that it isn't a Shilo Sharps or a C Sharps. But to compare 25 years ago, I was looking for a cheap 9mm pistol to keep in my truck, I bought a Equiptian made Helwan, that they claim was Made on the Beretta model 51 tooling, and the gun I got was a old one and was made real nice, and the only problem with that pistol was a 60lb trigger pull, i took it all apart, polished and smooth all parts and lighten the springs and got it down to 3lb trigger pull and it was a tack driver! 15 years ago I gave it to my son, and looked for 15 years to find another one, and I did and bought it! It wasn't the same quailty as my first, this gun still showed mill marks in the slide and the reciever and was rough as a cob!! I worked and worked, and never got it to shoot like the other gun! i might be wrong (which I am most of the time) I swear that my first one had Brigader stamped on it???
Maybe some others will jump in here and comment on the later models of Sharps like mine!
My main concern is the gun being made out of good steel?
 Thanks again Graybeard

Just looking at the photos I can see yours is much better made than mine of long ago. I have no clue on the steel but see no reason to assume a modern current production gun would be made of inferior steel. Good steel really costs no more than cheap I'd think so wouldn't worry too much about inferior steel in it.
