Turk mauser barrel
« on: August 26, 2008, 11:57:59 AM »
Hi all, im new here but ive been reading for several days now..lots of great info here. My question is this, I have a turkish mauser that ive had for about 5 years now. I took it out today and fired some rounds through it, so I cleaned it when I got home. I never noticed this before but there is writing on the barrel toward the front sight. It says CAL ST ALB VT M1938 GERMAN 8mm. Can anyone tell me anything about these markings??

CAL ST ALB VT M1938 GERMAN 8mm.

Welcome!
Those are the importer's marks.  Never saw them with the model and caliber though.  I believe the CAL is Century Arms Ltd, The ST ALB VT is for Saint Albins, Vermont, the M1938 is the model of the Mauser - it's not really but Google Turk Mausers and read all about it!   ;D  The  GERMAN 8mm is, of course, the caliber.  There may be some minor errors there, but you get the idea... my memory ain't what it once wa...  ???  What were we talking about?   ???
