Triple 7

 Has anyone used Triple 7 in a flintlock and do You think you could use in a finer grain for priming?

The flash point of 777 is too high for a flintlock to ignite it reliably...

You will be better suited to stick with real black powder...

 yep what flintlock said .
 i gave it a try  after getting a can  of a trade blanket . mind you it was in a nice  canvas bag marked Goex .
 but i figured what the hay , id try a couple loads .
 i could not get it to go off unless i duplexed it .

so i used it up in my paper shotgun shells

trip7 also has a higher pressure curve than standard black powder.  For standard traditional shooting with seneible loads it isn't a problem, BUT, for those who need to always push the envelope, it runs about 15% to 20%  higher in pressure.  If yer up near max loads of black for yer gun, trip7 just might be the last straw......

They work if you Duplex the load 10 gr of goex and the rest t7 It will ignite and if you have trouble getting black powder saves a little.  You just need to be careful working up loads.  I have done it with t7 and Goex pinnicle. works ok.

Flintlocks:

To insure proper ignition in flintlock systems, 5 grains of FFFFG priming pow-
der should be placed into the bore prior to loading the main charge of Triple Seven or
Pyrodex. Consult the loading data in this brochure to determine the proper charge for
the caliber firearm used and the chosen projectile. The main powder charge should be
reduced by 5 grains to compensate for the addition of the priming powder. While hold-
ing the firearm vertically, slowly pour the measured charge of Triple Seven or Pyrodex
into the barrel. Seat the projectile firmly against the powder. Make certain that there is
no airspace between the powder and the projectile. *See WARNING below.

Percussion Firearms: Select the proper charge from the loads listed in this brochure.
Set powder measure as indicated. While holding the firearm vertically, slowly pour the
measured charge of Triple Seven or Pyrodex into the barrel. Seat the projectile firm-
ly against the powder . Make sure certain that there is no airspace between the pow-
der and the projectile. *See WARNING below.

Do not prime the pan on a flintlock or place a primer/cap on the firearm until ready

I have a TC hawken flint breech plug here on my desk.  it is from a 50 cal barrel.  the hollow in the breech plug that goes back to the touch hole is only 3/8 in diameter and goes to a depth of an inch into the breech plug.  The perpendicular hole for the touch hole liner meets the hollow in the breech plug about 1/32 of an inch above (forward of)  the base of the hollow.  I'm not sure that 5 grains of black would fill that area to be sufficiently exposed to the touch hole liner.  If you load a duplex load, put the black down there and tilt the gun slightly toward the touch hole side and give it a slight tap with your hand to get the powder to settle into the touch hole channel.

I have always read that T7 will not ignite reliably in a flinter.

I tested it in my RMC .50 cal and it works just fine.

If you are interested in using 777, go to the range and test it w/ a reduced charge.
