So here's the deal...
« on: August 29, 2008, 01:52:26 PM »
My optimism is being tested/fading. I've been holding off- in order to tell the tale of a happy ending...but, alas...

June- I called Gardner CS and made sure the barrels I wanted where available and that the rcvr's I had would accept them. All's well- I sent in to Gardner.

July- I receive (quickly) from Gardner with wrong barrels. I call CS, I explain, CS looks at paperwork/checks & verifies/agrees, Says call back for directions. Sends me return labels. I return them to Ilion with descriptive paperwork- No harm/No foul.

Today- They came in again from Ilion- in different (lesser) packaging - same wrong barrels. Ugh! I call CS.
 1) It was suggested that the rcvr would not accept the barrel I wanted- I noted that I had in fact (learned this here) called before and made sure.
 2) That the work performed was what was called out for by the paper work. I said WRONG. They callout a different SN- I corrected them. They said send them a copy of the Original paperwork showing different. Unfortunately the second time I sent them in I sent my copy in for clarification when they again took receipt of them so it would be right there with the hardware and not off somewhere in an office (I never really dreamed it would actually be a problem again). I stated this and I pointed out that their office had in fact verified all these facts once before.
 3) Interestingly, they (politely) asked me what difference did it make? I (politely) said it mattered to me.
They said they would call me back. I gave them my home and cell numbers. They are closed now. I received no call. If tomorrow was a workday and I could call them. I would. I would not write this. But, it's a long weekend and I'm aggravated.

Thanks. I really believe it is (somewhat isolated- due solely to the transition). It hasn't bothered me at all until today. I really believe (and to their credit) Gardner produced extraodinarily (with a sense of urgency) to the very end for us (the customer). And I appreciate/d that!!! They are fitted perfectly.

I could not agree more. They fit two barrels for me right before the shutdown and turned them around in less than 3 weeks.
And they, as always, fit perfectly.

The question about "what difference does it make" scares the bejeebers out of me.

I sent in a receiver to be fitted for a .44 Mag barrel near the "end" as we know it at Gardner. I asked them to check a ring on the breechface around the firing pin. They called and asked if I still had the original .243 barrel that came with the receiver and I asked why. I was told they were going to replace my old receiver with a new one and they would fit my old .243 barrel and my new .44 Mag barrel to the new receiver and send them back to me FOR NO EXTRA CHARGE!!! I told them I had gotten rid of the .243 barrel and told them thanks. I asked them if they would just fit the new .44 Mag barrel to a receiver and I would be VERY happy and thankful.
We have had the wonderful opportunity to have been there when H&R/NEF was the old, the original, and the caring group of individuals that made the company what it was, and I for one am thankful for that as well as all the great work the CS people did for us...long live our memories, and long live H&R/NEF. If any of you "old" CS people still check in here occasionally, Gordon, Jennifer, Mary, and the others, Thanks!!!....<><....:)  By the way, the .44 Mag barrel fits great!!!!Does the phrase "made with a little bit of love" sound familiar to any of rest of you old guys? That's how our old H&R/NEF's were made and worked on by CS, with a little bit of love.... :)

I'm sure this will turn out fine. After watching the weather bearing down on the folks of New Orleans again- this is petty. Last night I was just like- "Good Grief! Ya couldn'ta called or emailed me?!?". ;D :D :D :D :D

Note to self: (Read- The lesson for me is) ALWAYS retain a copy of the original paperwork. Always, always, always (maybe that'll help me remember something I know).  ::) ;D

The problem IMO is isolated. We never hear about the positive. There are so many handi holics that do not know about this forum and we can not hear there voices.Your problem sounds like work order confusion. At least the barrels fit good. Myself i will wait to send any off.I know it is really frustrating but it will shake out. We have to hope for the best. Please keep us informed of the outcome good or bad we need to know. Company buy outs and plant shutdowns are a huge logistic nightmare. Keep the faith

10-4 Troyboy! Keepin' the faith! :) I know when they look at the paperwork it'll be fine. If not- I'll ask them to send me a copy of what they're lookin' at? ??? Like I said though- after an additional two months waiting a simple phone call or email would have been nice- to say the least- instead of just rebox and ship. :o

So maybe it's not so bad after all...

Call it an epiphany or whatever... I've had some time to read around a bit... and after some careful consideration... maybe I received a blessing in disguise. The realist in me says the chances of turning things around successfully and timely at this point are slim to none. So just go with it- I luckily received some well fitting (Gardner) barrels- so keep what I got, use this fall/winter, sell and reorder what I want, or sell complete in the spring and get what I want then. I'm thinkin' maybe a Stainless Ultra Hunter with Thumbhole Stock (ala Quickdtoo  ;)).
