NEW Stainless Ultra Hunter with Thumbhole Stock



I want to get a new Single Shot 45-70 and this one I like.

I don't want any other H&R 45-70 but this one with it's SS 24" barrel.

Yep , Quickdtoo ( Tim ) has one , his range report on it is back a page or so if you want to look it up .

For what its worth I'm still sold on that style butt stock .

I want one too. If I remember correctly, Tim had some accuracy issues with his. I think I am going to wait for the dust to clear at Remington and see how it shakes out. If it works out I think I would like a SS 30-06 barrel to match too. I am more interested in the SS receiver than the thumb hole stock. When I get there I will decide if it stays on or I sell it and get a regular laminated one.

No accuracy issues, but the rim cut was on the deep side, combined with nominal firing pin projection I had  no-fires, primer hits were too shallow. But I fixed that and it's a shooter, so I don't want to return it for replacement. I've only seen one other range report on it with the Leverevolution ammo, it shot a nice 100yd group.

Jon, I put a different thumbhole stock on mine, one with a Decelarator pad, the standard pad that comes on it is the thin brown Marlin pad, same one that came on my 243 T-hole Ultra!

I spoke with one of our stores that carries H&R1871 line, but they will not re-order until December.  I got one other store to check with to see if they can order this one in.

You know guys, Christmas is coming.  I might just ask Santa to drop one off early......say like November first.   It'd be a nice partner for my stainless '06 barrel.  Only trouble is I'd want to use them both at the same time.  I'm bad that way, When I can't make up my mind, I take 'em all.  I agree with Tim, I'll certainly do some work on that recoil pad.

One Handy I do not have is a stainless model, either Nickle look-a-like or newer real stainless. I LOVE the look of lams on stainless steel!!! (I also do not own a '06 at all right now!!  )

 I will be watching for a while, with the recient problems we are reading about, Time will tell what happens. I am hoping it will be a better gun once everything is in place at big green, but just now..
I'll be waiting and watching.

Thanks for all your replies, and if I'm able to get a new one it has to be stainless #1 with the thumbhole stock #2 and must be in my beloved cartridge of 45-70

Got mine last Friday,have scope mounted and taking it to the range today!
I too bought it for the SS receiver and barrel.
Replaced stock and forearm with synthetic units and a Decelarator pad.
Thumbhole on friends .223 as I shoot lefthanded.
