Here's to the hurricane
« on: August 30, 2008, 02:44:44 PM »
Well, it is looking like New Orleans is gonna get hit with a hurricane again 3 years after Katrina.   Have a trip planned there in October to train the NOPD, but I'm thinking it might get canceled.   Then again, it might turn west in the gulf and come right to Galveston...

We're not out of the woods yet ... here comes Ike. Sure need the rain but hate to see those folks on the coast get it. I used to live in Victoria and as of today looks like it's coming right at them. Unless it changes going to have a house full of relatives in Arlington for the weekend.

I'm expecting some company here in Ft Worth, too.  I was something like 12 years old when Carla blew through near Corpus about this time in 1961.  We stayed, but man, did things get wet.  After things calmed down Dad and I took the boat out on the Laguna Madre to see how things had changed.  What a mess.  Somewhere in the garage I still have a double-mantle Coleman lantern that I found half-buried on a lonely shoreline.

Well, Ike did knock the snot out of us, but we seem to be back to normal.  I am enjoying the OT on the pay checks the past few weeks.  I didn't enjoy the 12 hr + days with canceled off days, no water or electricity etc..  But now that things are back to normal, i am enjoying the extra $.

Hoep all of you came out ok from Ike..

Good to hear from you Mark I've been wondering where you were. I was hoping it wasn't hurricane related but suspected it might be. Did your home fair OK?

Hey Bill, sorry to have been absent for so long.  Just some siding messed up, which I repaired when we finally got a day off.  3 trees down, none were good trees anyway.  Was pretty upset that prior to Ike, someone came onto our place and stole our generator.   Was going to replace it since we use it at deer camp, but man when Ike came, I couldn't find a generator under 1K for 2 weeks.  We did get one and used it a good bit until power was restored.
