OFF TOPIC: RUNNING FROM GUSTAV!!!!!
« on: August 31, 2008, 04:29:19 AM »
Since I post on here quite a bit I was letting you guys know that I'm going to be gone for a few days to a few weeks depending on what happens.  I live in the bottom South West Corner of Mississippi and as you may know we have a hurricane barreling down on us aiming at the eastern half of Louisiana.  I'm only evacuating far enough to get out of the flood waters if we have any.  The highways now look like the exodus is happening.  Keep us in your prayers we don't need this kind of disaster so soon after Hurricane Katrina wiped us out 3 years ago.

We're all praying you'll return home safely to an undamaged home.  I got out of Florida 20 years ago for that and crowding reasons, and now all I have to worry about is freezing to death!   Bless you, be safe.  Pete

There are places not good for man or beast to live. I put up with long winters  so I don't worry about floods, quakes, volcanic eruptions or forest fires we do get leftover hurricanes here and those are plenty windy enough for me. If Gustav hits New Orleans, it is gone to be be history this time IMO

I've sat through a bunch of them.  Unless you live on the water, it's no big deal.  I take care of the neighbor's houses and feed them when they get back.  Good luck!

I was out looking at the Gulf of Mexico just a few minutes ago.  It was really rockin'.

I can't run, I'm stuck in Mandeville with the fire department. The feeder bands are starting to come in as I type. We should start getting rain in the next couple of hours. At least the fire department is better prrpared for this storm. Katrina took a toll on us and we weren't prepared. Hopefully he will stay a category 3 with a weak east side.

Well I live in South West MS, we are riding it out.  Once again LA has taken care of itself and left the rest of us to deal with being trapped.  Nice, if it wasn't looting the last time its god only knows whats next this time.  Well we're better armed than last time, and I'm home.  I dont play, and I never ask twice, if need be look for the buzzards swirling, thats where I'm stacking the problems.  We might come out on the worst end of this stick, but it wont be for lack of shooting.

I live in the northern part of the state so we just watch the exodus heading north on I-49.  My wife and I worked at the feeding station at the FBC during the Katrina aftermath and she just left taking food and toys to the shelter (the PE majors building) on the NSU Campus.  Take care and God Bless STUMPJMPR.

I can hear the Gulf roaring like crazy right now.  I'm less than a mile from it.  Not much rain here in NW FL.

This storm is nothing like Katrina was. We've had a few trees on houses, powerlines, etc. The Mayor of Mandeville is under FBI Investigation for corrupt actions. It keeps getting worse for him, I heard a tree fell through it. Stumpjmpr I live in Slidell and my wife stayed, I just talked to her on the phone and she said its not that bad.

My wife just left Dallas for Shreveport. Apparently, the nursing home corporation she works for moved all of their residents from NO, Alexandria, and Morgan City to a facility in Shreveport and they needed extra staff. She picked up four of her nurse aides and headed out. At least the corporate office sprung for rooms at the Horseshoe Casino. Maybe after the storms passes through tomorrow, she and the residents will be headed home.

Well east Texas is getting rain pretty good, but alot less than was predictamated for us (yea I know it aint a word I been on a shift for 28 hours gimme a freakin break :D ) and the storm seems to have just about stalled over cajun country.  Actually it is crawling, but people on the west side are gettin their feet wet.

Anyway ya'll be careful if yer in that area, and we are prayin for ya on this side.

Just got internet back at the station. Glad to hear it stumpjmpr. Were still getting bombarded with small tornados and bad weather. I sat on Causeway and watched one develop and followed it to I-12, then had to go assess damage to homes. No real damage as of yet. Another storm is hitting right now with about 25 mph winds gusting to 35. I thought I'd be released today to see my family, guess not. Atleast the power was restored to them a couple of hours ago. The water is still rising here. We sent a few guys to Houma, couldn't go, didn't have special training. I hope to try and get it in a couple of years. Glad to hear that you didn't take on water. Inches are to close for the headaches.
take care

Well, the good news is we made it through another one without too much loss.   ;D   The bad news is that we lost power on Monday and don't see getting it back for quite a while.   :'(   Lots of trees down and power line damage.  The local utility got in some 200 additional trucks to help out this am but they are pretty much grounded due to rain and wind....remnants from Gustav.  I'm located in St. Landry Parish.  Good luck to all cause it ain't over yet.

Good luck to you... We took a direct hit from Katrina 3 years ago and we still aren't back to normal... It takes some time... Someone from the power company told me after Katrina they had to put in 3 million light poles in their district... We're glad we didn't get hit hard by gustav its just a shame that someone else had to get it...

Vernon Parish seemed to be spared the brunt of Gustav, certainly nothing like what Rita did.  We are very grateful for this. Our prays for all those in need.

We lost power for two days and lost our only tree in the front yard here in central Louisiana but it seems to be all past us now.  That blooming thing just traveled right up I-49.
