I live in Edmond, am retired and hunt hawgs just North of Luther and over E. of Guthrie.

VTDW I believe I remember you from the Marlin board several years ago and you were a big fan of the large bore leverguns. You hunted some hogs near Ada on a hunting ranch.

Dang... you mean there are some "Sandites" on here? Surpised to see some folks from Sand Springs. I grew up there...

And there's at least one "Demon" on here too. My family and my wife's family are from Duncan.

Ooops, missed the dude from Waurika... my wife's parents have property between Walters and Comanched right on the Jefferson/Stephens live at the very tip of Lake Waurika bordering the wildlife refuge.

I hunt on the red river, but it is so dry here hunting has been poor for me, although a lot of deer were taken.

Just got my Marlin 45/70 guide gun, not fully sighted in yet, really looking forward to drawing down on a hog with it!

Used to do a lot of bird huntin' west of Waurika down on the river... killed more dang quail out there... Used to see a lot of hog sign but it's been a while since I've been huntin' down that way though. My parents lived in Waurika for a couple years too...

Moore, Cleveland County.....I used to hunt and run on the red river between I-35 & Lake Texoma (Texas side). I've never seen any, but I hear there are some monster hogs running in the river bottom now a days. Only problem with the river now is it's full of methheads and crazyness from Gainesville.

Our place is 6 miles west of Waurika, right on the river, at the big bend before it goes on to the highway 79 bridge.
Sounds about like where you hunted.
At one time there were lots of quail here, but numbers have be way down in recent years. I think the hogs are part of the reason and we also have a huge hawk migration that comes through here and I think they just sweep them up on their way south.

yep... that would be just about the right place. the hogs'll play heck with ground nesting birds. they'll take fawns if they can too. Hawks aren't too bad except in nesting season. What really tears up the quail population is clean farming. They like edges and need cover. If you plow from fence to fence, the quail die out or go elsewhere. After a look on google earth, I'd have to say we used to hunt right near you. Maybe within earshot. Dang I miss some of those days in the mesquite! Used to hunt east of town on the Howard place too. A few other smaller places that my dad had permission on as well.

Hey matmillerrx, yeah I do have a few places that I can go, but the majority is in South Central Kansas where I guide deer, turkey and predator hunters. I hope to get a lease a lot closer to home though around Guthrie area.

I'll be out near your way next month. We're holding our 5th Annual GBO Prairie Dog Hunt in Hooker, OK next month. We hit all three of the western most counties in the panhandle usually when having the hunts.

Nope; Kashier Bottoms as the old timer call it. Across town about 8 miles west of Ft. Coffee. I know some of the older Gist's.

Graybeard, I've never been that far up in Western OK. but what I have seen oughta be excellent prairie dog country. Wish you well on yer visit.
