I Can hear those Shotguns Hammering!
« on: September 01, 2008, 04:01:52 AM »
Well, it was barely 8:00am this morning when I started hearing those shotguns to the north and west of my location while I sat at this puter with my Coffee.
The Dove season opened today as many of you know. It used to be that the daily hunt did not start until 12:00pm but that has changed over the last four to five years and I hear a lot of morning shooting going on.

I am still messing with the Squirrels but will try to get some afternoon Dove hunts in within the next couple weeks. Some here will do the opposite and not hunt any Squirrels till later in Sept because of mosquito's or heat or something like that ;) I did talk to a local last year who had hunted Doves a full 30 days before going Squirrel hunting...He was saying that upon his first hunt of the season for Squirrels the said animal ran down a tree trunk and across a horizontal limb. I guess that he promptly led that Squirrel by Five Feet and slapped the trigger on his shotgun ;D ;D ;D a little excessive (that lead) for Squirrels but he should be well versed in keeping that shotgun barrel moving for the upcoming ducks.

The Doves have been more plentyful around here in the last few years with a fair amount that seem to be resident. You might hurry and get yours know though as the bulk will be heading to Meh-HE-CO!
